CHAPTER 7
complicated
"Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're
Actin' like you're somebody else, gets me frustrated"
Renee stepped out of the car with George, the sound of engines roaring and the bustling activity of the paddock enveloping them. The air was filled with the distinct scent of rubber and gasoline, a symphony of sensations that were both overwhelming and thrilling.
"This is it," George said, grinning as he looked at his sister. "Ready to see what it's all about?"
Renee nodded, though her heart was pounding. She had been to a few of George's races, but the scale and energy of it all still left her awestruck.
As they made their way through the crowd, they received nods and greetings from various team members and other drivers. George waved and smiled, but Renee felt a knot of anxiety tightening in her chest. She wasn't used to this kind of attention.
"Come on, I'll show you around the Mercedes area first," George said, leading her through the maze of people.
George guided Renee through the bustling Mercedes garage, introducing her to team members and showing her around. The sleek, high-tech environment was a stark contrast to the chaotic energy outside.
"This is where all the magic happens," George explained, pointing to the various workstations. "From car setups to strategy planning, everything goes down here."
Renee tried to take it all in, nodding along, but her anxiety was mounting. The garage was a hive of activity, with engineers and mechanics buzzing around, and the sheer intensity of it all was starting to overwhelm her.
"I've got to do some social media stuff now," George said suddenly. "Will you be okay on your own for a bit?"
Renee's eyes widened. "Um, yeah, sure," she replied, trying to sound confident.
George squeezed her shoulder. "You'll be fine. Just stay here, and I'll be back soon."
He disappeared into the crowd, leaving Renee standing there, feeling utterly lost. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart, but the noise and the people were too much. She could feel the edges of a panic attack creeping in.
