CHAPTER 3
back to december
"I miss your tan skin, your sweet smile
So good to me, so right"
Renee woke up to the soft glow of the morning sun filtering through her curtains, casting a gentle light across her bedroom. She stretched, feeling the familiar ache in her heart that had become all too common since the breakup. The memories of her lunch with George the day before played in her mind, particularly the revelation about Lando's crush. She couldn't shake it off.
As she went through her morning routine, brushing her teeth and washing her face, she found her thoughts drifting back to Lando. How could she have been so oblivious? She chuckled at the thought of George's protectiveness, but there was a nagging curiosity that she couldn't ignore.
With a sigh, she made her way to the kitchen, poured herself a cup of coffee, and settled down at her kitchen table. Her phone was within reach, almost beckoning her to dive deeper into this newfound curiosity. She hesitated for a moment, then gave in, opening Instagram and typing in Lando's handle.
Lando's profile was a mix of professional racing shots and candid moments with friends and family. She scrolled through the photos, noting his infectious smile and the easy camaraderie he shared with his fellow drivers. He looked genuinely happy, and she felt a pang of envy at his apparent ease with life.
As she continued scrolling, she found pictures of Lando with his ex-girlfriend, Luisa. They looked like a perfect couple, attending events together and sharing private moments that had been made public through the lens of social media. Renee felt a twinge of insecurity as she looked at Luisa's stunning features and effortless style.
But it wasn't just Luisa that caught her attention. There were pictures of Lando laughing with his friends, working out, and even a few candid shots where he was just being himself. She found herself smiling at one photo in particular, where he was making a goofy face at the camera, clearly unbothered by how he might look.
Renee realized that, despite her initial reluctance, she was starting to find Lando endearing. He had a boyish charm and an unguarded sincerity that was refreshing. She paused on one photo, where he was looking particularly handsome, the sunlight catching his features just right. She shook her head, feeling slightly guilty for finding him cute. This was George's friend, after all.
