PRINCESS CIRILLA was King Alfred's and Lady Aelswiths youngest daughter as she was born just minutes after Edward. The young girl lived a sheltered life but often found herself in trouble. She knew she was treated differently compared to her siblings who held much more importance than she ever would. Edward would become King one day and Aethelflaed would be expected to marry soon, but young Cirilla had no real royal duty. She would be expected to marry of course, but not until the kingdom of Wessex required a new alliance. Therefore, due to her lack of duties she was sent away to a nunnery where she would be kept until the time came where she had to be married off. During her time in the nunnery she was sheltered from the evils of the world. Of course she heard stories of the Danes and the battles that her father had been involved in, but never had she witnessed such a thing. She was hidden from the world just as it was hidden from her.
After the death of her father the princess returned to Winchester at the request of her brother, KING EDWARD. He had been deprived of her presence for so long and longed for some form of comfort during his time of transition. The siblings lived happily for a while. Until Edward got married. He began to listen to those who wanted to harm Wessex instead of those acting in favour of the Kingdom. She watched as her brother turned cold and distant, knowing there was nothing to do to help him. After the battle against Cnut and his men, the princess and King Edward traveled to Mercia after the heard of Lord Aethelreds dire condition. Cirilla did not care for the man as her sister, Aethelflaed had told her he had mistreated her in unimaginable ways. But still, she traveled to Mercia to comfort her sister. She just didn't realise how her life would change so much during her time outside of Winchester.
