"I WILL CARRY HER."

During the night, Aelfwynn had become worse. Her skin was burning up, her cough was constant and she barely had enough energy to open her eyes.

Cirilla worried for the young girl. It was apparent she had the sickness, yet none of them wanted to admit it. So instead the powered through.

Uhtred offered to carry the young girl through the fields as Cirilla wasn't exactly the strongest.

"How far are we from Ceastar?" The blonde girl asked as her feet dragged through the high grass. Her dress had become dirty and torn from the journey, which did annoy her considering that was her favourite dress.

"Bored of us already?" Finan quipped as he joined her side. The two appeared almost as though they were siblings. Their natural banter and chat kept them both hopeful during hard times.

"Just of you and your terrible joke, Finan." She gave him a cheeky smile making him role his eyes.

"We should be close now." Sihtric replied. In all honesty, he wasn't actually sure if they were close or not, he just wanted to be.

The group remained quiet as they continued walking, making their way over ridges and through bushes, following Uhtred lead. They only took small breaks when completely necessary but due to Aelfwynns condition, their breaks became more common.

"There is a break in the trees." Uhtred told them as he stared ahead. It was around midday and the sun was beating down on them. "We will go up to it."

He placed Aelfwynn back on the ground, allowing her to walk next to Cirilla. Even the short walk seemed to take a lot out of the young girl.

"An actual path." Young Uhtred laughed as they stared at the path.

"Well seen." Cirilla rolled her eyes, sarcasm dripping from her tongue.

"A good sign." Uhtred nodded, hopefulness filling his head. "Next village we get to, we can get some horses, move more quickly." He decided. "Without wind, the sickness can not have reached this far north."

Cirilla glanced down at Aelfwynn who swayed in her place. She wasn't sure how the sickness was going to affect Aelfwynn in the time to come. There was also the risk that she could pass the sickness onto another member of the group, further slowly then down from getting help.

"We need to find a healer." Cirilla added quickly, making everyone turn to her. "For Aelfwynn." She said quietly, her voice cracking.

"We will." The man assured with a firm nod. "For now, make sure she is not afraid, distract her."

Cirilla nodded her head quickly, she would do anything to distract Aelfwynn from her pain.

"Let's go, petal." Aelfwynn grasped Cirillas hand in her own as they began to follow Uhtred once again.
