People always fall in love with the most perfect aspects of each other's personalities. Who wouldn't? Anybody can love the most wonderful parts of another person. But that's not the clever trick. The really clever trick is this: Can you accept the flaws? Can you look at your partner's faults honestly and say, 'I can work around that. I can make something out of it.'? Because the good stuff is always going to be there, and it's always going to be pretty and sparkly, but the crap underneath can ruin you.

"How is Becky doing?" Nam asked as she joined Freen and the others at the cafeteria.

Freen sighs, "She doesn't talk much. Not about what happened."

"It might not have been easy, she needs to talk about it, before it consumes her." Heng says placing a comforting hand on her shoulders.

Freen looked away furrowing her eyebrows, "I have tried. She says she's fine."

"And she does act like it. Like she's totally fine." Billy added.

"But her smile doesn't reach her eyes anymore. Anyone can see that." Irin says with equal concern.

Freen took a long blink and finally responded, "She takes care of the girls, she's good with me. So how can I force her to talk about any of it? What if talking is gonna make this worse?"

All of them could sense her agitation and frustration.

"Hey guys!!" Becky's voice came startling all of them.

Becky moves and sits beside Freen taking a sip of Freen's coffee, as if it's the most natural thing to do, "What are you talking about?"

"Nothing in particular." Billy mumbled. She looked puzzled for a minute, "Okay."

"Freen?" She turned to look at Freen who was equally lost in thoughts, "Y..yeah?"

"I need a consult." Becky says moving closer and placing a patient file infront of Freen.

Freen clears her throat, trying to regain her composure before directing her attention to the file, "So there is this patient of mine, she came in with stomach pain and it turned out to be food poison, nothing serious there. But then we got to talking and she told me she's been having these constant headaches for a while, almost 6 months. MRI came clean. What if it's something neural?"

Freen could see the usual glint in Becky's eyes return for a minute before it's gone altogether. The job is probably what is holding Becky together.

"I can take a look." Freen offers.

Becky grins widely, "That would be great."

They are walking through the corridor when Freen suddenly asks, "Why ask me?"

"Huh?" Becky looks confused.

"You could have asked Danny, he's the consulting neurologist now." Freen states.

Becky sighs rolling her eyes, "I don't wanna talk to him."

"Why?"

Becky looked away not making eye contact. "He will just ask me more questions."

Freen frowns, "About?"

"What happened."

Freen raises her brow in surprise, "He's been doing that?"

After a minute, Becky responded with her eyes closed, "Yeah constantly ever since. I expected that from you but not him."

Freen almost scoffs, "What if I ask? Will you talk?"

Becky shakes her head, "There's nothing to talk about. I'm fine."

"And you wonder why I'm not asking." Freen commented annoyed.

Becky huffs, "What is that supposed to mean?"

"You're gonna shut me out too. So why bother?" Freen says crossing her arms.

Freen, not wanting to aggravate the younger girl more, asked, “Are you sure you're okay?”

She nodded and replied, “Yes."

The two women mutually smiled at each other, however Becky's smile was more defeated than ever.

******************************

Becky awoke with a gasp and frantically looked around her, only to find a sleeping Freen laying beside her. She looked around their room. Nothing was different, nothing was threatening her, and nothing had woken her up. Besides her nightmare. The same nightmare she’s had ever since.

Each time Becky woke, Freen had gotten up, comforted her, and coaxed her back to sleep; but this night, she remained sleeping. Most likely from how exhausted she was after working nonstop. And she deserved the sleep.

Becky watched as her wife's breathing remained steady. Becky admired her for minutes, until finally, she layed back down and drifted off into a light sleep.

Becky forced herself awake. She first noticed the clock, which read 6:07 AM. She swiftly got dressed for the day in her scrubs.

Becky then made her way around the kitchen island and turned on the coffee machine, letting the coffee grounds seep for two minutes. A coffee could possibly take the edge off, she thought.

“Hey you.”

Becky looked up to find Freen, in her pajamas, leaning on the doorway watching her. “Morning.” She smiled and started pouring coffee into their mugs.

Freen made her way around the island and up to Becky. She wrapped her arms around Becky's waist and rested her head on her back; hugging her from behind.

Becky released tension she didn’t even know she was holding on to. Freen's touch calmed her. Soothed her. Made her feel like she was at home and safe.

Freen noticed her tension at first and asked, “Hey...Are you okay? You’re stiff.”

Becky turned to face her, smiling with her eyes, “Yes.”

Freen wasn’t convinced. Realising she hadn’t woken up in the middle of the night, she questioned, “No nightmare last night?”

Becky took a deep sigh and gave her wife a crooked smile, “Nope.” She lied. Yet somehow she couldn’t bring herself to tell Freen the truth.

Freen, growing suspicious of her wife, turned to her and tilted her head, "How about we take some days off?"

"Wha..Why?" Becky overwhelmed, fumbled.

Freen took her warm mug into her hands and began sipping the bitter drink and inched herself up onto the island, so that she was sitting on the counter. "We can go on a vacation. Go someplace else. I think it will help."

Becky thought about it for a moment before moving towards Freen and standing in between her legs, "What about the girls?"

Freen slowly caressed Becky's cheek with her fingers, gently running them over her smooth skin, "Your parents can take them. It's only for a few days. I think we both need this after everything that we have been through."

Becky looked at her wife with tired eyes and nodded, "Let me think about it first?"

"Alright." Freen placed a kiss to the top of Becky's forehead, hopped off the counter top and headed into their bedroom to continue getting ready for the day.

Becky watched lethargically as Freen strode up the stairs. After a minute, she sighed and turned back to her coffee.
