‼️TW: Suicide, mentions of suicide, death‼️

“Bitte, Bruder. Stay underground with me. Stay alive for longer,” TR had pleaded Rhine as he loaded his rifle.

“Entschuldigung, but I have to fight for our people. I love you, remember that,” Rhine had responded, setting a hand on TR's shoulder. The rifle in the other hand held loosely at his side.

TR blinked back tears as he brought Rhine into a tight embrace, wrapping his black wings around the other. “If you get severely injured I'm going to kill you,” He said in their usual brotherly manner.

“I know.”

A hand on Rhine's shoulder gently shaking him snapped him back into reality, his vision strangely even more blurry.

“Are you okay?” USSR asked, all of the words coming through yet still being barely audible.

“Is… is my brother alive?” He had to be, otherwise Rhine wouldn't be here and talking, right?

USSR seemed to sigh and turn her head to the side, “Reich committed suicide after the Battle of Berlin. I tried reasoning with him, but he would not listen. Insisted that there was nothing he could do…”

Rhine felt a burning sensation in his eyes, and blinked furiously, but that only made the tears that had already formed fall. TR, his beloved brother, was dead. He did have Dissociative Identity Disorder without the amnesia, but… He had committed-

TR had to be alive, barely at least. Otherwise how else could Rhine be alive? He should have died by now. He should have died as well. Wasn't He the human counterpart of TR?

Friedrich had died when Weimar succumbed to pneumonia worsened by his SCID, and that had been… jarring to the reality of a life as a human counterpart. Friedrich had been healthy, but dropped dead as soon as Weimar died.

“I wish I could have stopped him. He was really kind when he wasn't…” USSR trailed off, or perhaps she continued on and Rhine didn't notice.

“When he wasn’t Third.” Rhine said, closing his eyes and waiting for the cool embrace of death to take him, but it never came.

How am I still alive?
