‼️TW: Memories turned sad‼️
“Vati..?”
“What is it, Kätzchen?" A.H asked softly, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. Rhine couldn’t make much out in the minimal light, but he could see that A.H had his hair down and was wearing a loose t-shirt. He also wasn’t wearing his eyepatches so his completely dark eyes could be seen.
“I-I had another nightmare…” Rhine murmured softly, fiddling with his fingers nervously. “NO! VATI!”
Strangely, A.H didn’t ask Rhine to describe it. He instead asked, “Do you want me to sing you to sleep?” He tilted his head to the side, a movement that seemed slightly stiff.
Rhine nodded, he was still quite terrified from his nightmare. “It’ll be okay, Kätzchen, I’m always going to be here for you.”
“Okay,” A.H said, sliding off the bed and picking Rhine up. “Let’s get you back to sleep.”
A.H carried Rhine back to his room, holding him tightly. His slightly swaying stride naturally added a subtle rocking sensation, which helped to calm Rhine’s troubled mind. “It’s what Krauts like your family deserve.”
His nightmare had been really weird, something about his parents being killed by British Empire and France. Which wouldn’t and couldn’t happen, right?
A.H gently set Rhine on the bed he shared with TR, who was sound asleep, clearly not plagued by strange nightmares.
A.H began to sing to Rhine, but the memory changed so that Rhine was the one standing beside a bed and A.H was in it.
A.H finished singing the lullaby that he seemed to have started just a few moments ago.
“Vati… will you… are you going to…” Rhine asked softly, trailing off because he didn't want to say what he was referring to. A.H seemed to understand.
“No, only two people died. I'll be fine soon,” A.H said, reaching up and gently caressing Rhine's cheek and smiling softly.
It always bemused Rhine how A.H knew where a person, dead or alive, was. But he knew A.H would explain soon. Hopefully.
“Liebling… are you sure it's a good idea to declare war? You're-” G.E started, quite anxious for his husband.
A.H looked up at G.E and said, “I'm sure, Liebe. You worry too much.”
“Okay…”
Suddenly, everything changed yet again. Now? It was when Rhine and his siblings had watched A.H and G.E die in front of them.
A.H stumbled over to where Rhine was standing. His eye patches were ripped off. His wings were tattered, and so was his uniform. He was bleeding from a multitude of either gashes or bullet wounds. Gravely injuring him but not killing him. Yet.
“Kätzchen.. Es tut mir so leid, dass ich dir keine bessere Vati sein konnte..” A.H rasped, a thin trickle of dark red blood trailing a path down from the side of his mouth.
“NEIN! NEIN, VATI!”
Rhine wasn’t sure who cried out, but it sounded not like him.
He ran towards A.H, but right as soon as he took a second step, he fell into a pit of nothingness.
