‼️TW: Panic attack, PTSD, war‼️

Rhine woke up with a jolt, wondering what the heck had woken him up? He had a mild headache, that felt like something was pounding at the inside of his left temple, but that couldn't have been-

CRAK

Rhine yelped when he heard the thunderclap, his brain going to the sound of a tank cannon firing. Even the background of patpatpatpatpat terrified Rhine. Too close sounding to the rat-tatatatatatatat of machine gun fire.

It's just rain it's just rain es ist nur Regen es ist nur Regen es ist nur Regen! But that didn't stop the memories of the war from rushing in, consuming any other thoughts.

“GET DOWN!”

The ground shook as the T-34 fired at them, not once, but twice.

BOOM

A spray of dirt to the left

BOOM

Another spray of dirt, this time closer.

The stuttering of a few machine guns returning fire filled the air as bullets flew in both directions, narrowly missing Rhine but hitting some of his comrades-in-arms.

Rhine didn't realize that there was someone with him until he felt himself be shaken, which wasn’t part of the memory.

“Hey, you're safe.”

USSR..? What is she doing here..? Rhine thought as he slowly came back into reality, not even realizing that he was being touched.

“It's okay, just focus on my voice. You are safe. The war is over.”

Rhine blinked, the flashback finally going away. He glanced down at his hands, which had clenched the blankets in his distress. He loosened his grip and realized that he was shaking. Quite a lot, actually. He didn't feel cold.

Though there was a sharp pain going through his left arm, which wasn't fun. And that headache…

“It'll be okay. You are safe. No one is going to hurt you,” USSR soothed, gently rubbing Rhine's shoulder.

Her touch was warm and calming, as was her voice. Its slight deepness adds to the calming effect.

“Rain's scary…” Rhine murmured softly, leaning into USSR's hand. Now rain terrifies me… what else that was soothing before now is terrifying?

USSR gently pulled Rhine into an embrace, having seated herself on the edge of Rhine's hospital bed.

“I know… I know it is,” USSR murmured softly, rubbing Rhine’s back.

She’s.. Comfy and warm….. Rhine though, slowly calming down. She reminded him of Vati and how he would sing softly to Rhine when he had a nightmare, before the war.

Translations:
Es ist nur Regen = It's only rain
Vati =  dad/father
