"And you're sure about this, kid?"
"Yes, don't worry about me. I'll stay out of trouble, I promise."
Somehow you had the feeling that this last part was a lie. Dazai, Chuuya and you were standing at the entrance of the ruined Mooncastle together with Aya and the Ghost Lovecraft.
"I'll help Lovecraft find his peace so he can stop roaming this world as a Ghost. And then I'll help the next one and every Ghost I meet", Aya exclaimed excitedly while the ghost beside her sighed silently.
You all bid your Goodbyes before the two Vampirehunters and you continued your journey.
The night was pretty cool, you could already see your breath as clouds in the air. Everyone was quiet, not even Dazai was talking. Whatever happened in those cellars, it seemed to take a toll on him.
However, he didn't seem to want to talk about it.
Soon after walking through the woods for some time, you could hear the rushing of a river. You immediatly knew which river you were hearing. The River of the Mourning Souls. A bit later you could see it as well.
Like a dark snake it laid there between the trees, going seemingly into eternity. A shiver went down your spine as well as the feeling of nostalgia. This wasn't the frst time you visited this place. And even though this was as much as a place of death as a graveyard, you had only positive memories of this place.
Dazai stopped at the shore, putting his hands on his hips, looking around. Chuuya followed him, pulling you along.
Between the sharp rocks just in front of your feet you noticed a human skull. Or maybe it was of a werewolf which wasn't transformed at the moment of their death. Or even a Vampire. You could only tell if you examine their teeth or spine more closely.
If you crossed this river, you would leave the Moonflower Forest and enter the Northern Crown Forest. For a moment you could swear that a pair of eyes watched you from the trees on the other shore. But as fast as this feeling came, it disappeared again. Perhaps it was just in your head.
"What are we even looking for here?", Chuuya asked in an annoyed tone.
"For a bridge", Dazai answered. You realisedwhich bridge he was talking about.
"Then we're completely wrong here", you informed, looking up from the skull and to Dazai.
"The village that built that bridge is far more in the East."
The dark haired male clapped his hands together.
"Very well! Then would you be so kind and lead us there?"
Oh why couldn't you just keep your mouth shut? If you just remained quiet, you could have gained time for an escape plan while they were searching for the bridge. Why did you feel so involved all of a sudden? It's not like you're starting to like these two. You were still enemies, you shouldn't help them.
They were using you for fuck's sake! For now you just blamed it on the fact that you had gone through dangers with these men and that you felt some strange kind of companionship.
Besides, the journey was still long, there would be more chances for you to flee.
You started to lead them downstream, trying to avoid the muddy parts of the shore.
It didn't take too long for you to reach the village. It laid near the shore, dark, quiet except for the rushing of the river.
In most of the houses no light was burning anymore. Another detail you noticed was that the village was free from Moonflowers. Probably to not attract werewolves.
