REAL LIFE

"sooo.... where are we going?" milani questioned, turning her head towards matt.

the boy never looked away from the road, more focused on making a left turn at a flashing yellow arrow, "you'll see."

milani groaned, folding her arms over her chest, "you know i hate surprises."

"yeah.. i know," matt laughed.

milani rolled her eyes and turned to look out the window. she was trying so hard to figure out where they could be going, but nothing came to mind. she honestly was in the mood for anything, so she wouldn't be upset if they ended up sitting in a mcdonald's parking lot eating chicken nuggets.

she gave up on trying to figure out where it was they were going, and took a quick glance at the boy, feeling at ease. she missed spending time with just matt. any time the two would hang out together, she felt nothing but pure joy. it would always look as if she had just won the lottery.

and while she was more than happy to go out and spend time with him, it confused her as to why exactly he asked. part of her wanted to believe that matt broke up with sarah, but she didn't want to push it. and especially if that wasn't the case, she didn't want to make things awkward again. she just wanted to spend some time with him.

"mills.. helloo..?"

milani quickly snapped out of her thoughts, noticing they've arrived at her favorite mexican restaurant.

"we're here," matt laughed.

the girl instantly sat up and unbuckled her seat belt, rushing out the car, "i'll beat you inside."

"mills-"

matt called out her name before chasing after her. she turned around to see matt coming up close behind her, but she made it just before he caught up. milani started laughing at him, matt quickly defending himself.

"i don't know what you're laughing at.. you had a head start."

milani opened the door for him, "don't make excuses! after you."

the boy rolled his eyes, grabbing hold of the door so that she could walk in first. it was then and there she felt sparks again. butterflies filled her stomach. she happily obliged as she ducked under his arm and walked in.

one thing milani loved about matt was that he was always a gentleman. no matter what. as much as she wanted to joke around and let him in first, she knew that he wouldn't allow it. he always had to hold the door open.

"just two of us," matt motioned between him and milani.

the hostess pulled out two menus and had them follow her towards a small booth, made just for two, "your server will be with you shortly."

"thank you," matt smiled.

polite--that was another thing milani loved about matt. he was always polite. milani knew it sounded stupid that she loved that he was this way, but she believed that there was nothing more attractive than a guy who was a gentleman and polite.

on top of that, he was just so easy to get along with. he always cared about what others had to say and was a fun person to be around. whether or not they were dating, milani just loved being around him.

though they had a few bumps recently, she knew that things were getting better and hoped he would come clean about the entire thing sometime soon. and in hopes of getting that answer sooner rather than later, she tried getting it out of him.

"so.." milani cleared her throat. "what provoked one to invite me out to dinner on this fine day?"

matt shrugged, "i was just bored, yaknow."

"uhuhhh..."

she quickly realized it wasn't going to happen today. maybe he just genuinely wanted to spend time with her.

"i don't know," he sighed, leaning back. "i just feel like we haven't done something like this in a while."

there was nothing matt wanted more than to spit out the entire truth to her right now. he wanted to say that he broke up with sarah. he wanted to tell her why he left her two months ago. he wanted to confess to her that he still had feelings for her. but he was scared. he had a feeling that she'd be against trying things again because of what he did. he felt awful for what he put her through. he knew that she deserved better.

but he didn't want to ruin the mood the rest of the night. he just wanted some quality time with her.

"we haven't.." she agreed. "but i'm glad we are now. i missed it."

just as matt was about to say that he missed it too, the server approached and introduced herself, taking their drink orders as well. as she walked away, milani placed her menu at the edge of the table and matt gave her a questionable look.

"what? i already know what i want," she said, folding her arms over her chest.

matt just laughed and looked back down at his menu. he really did miss this. he missed her.
