i waited.
like a dog sitting at the front door,
waiting for their owner to come home.
to love them.i waited.
like how elders sit on the bench,
waiting for a bus to pick them up.
to want them.i waited.
like an adult sitting on the chair,
waiting for their employer to call them back.
to need them.i waited.
like the sun sitting in the sky,
waiting for the moon to come around to say goodnight.
to see them.yet the owner never returned,
yet the bus never showed up.
yet the employer never called back,
yet the moon never came around.and it makes me wonder;
if i had been a cat, or a kid.
if i had been a manager, or a flower.
if i had been something else.would you have returned?
loved me?
would you have showed up?
wanted me?
would you have called back? needed me?
would you have come around?
seen me?i waited.
like a dog, laying at the front door.
desperate for their owner to come home.
to love them.
