You Broke me

Chapter 10 - Decisions Decisions

During the following weeks Zee and Nunew spent alot of time together. Nunew would aways go to Zee's house saying he is visiting Zee's mother. They thought its better that why so that they would not have to explain to Nunew's family about their friendship / relationship. Zee will be leaving for university in a few weeks and he doesn't want to leave Nunew to deal with the aftermath alone. He doesn't know what Nunew's parents will do to him. 

Zee parents were thrilled when they saw what is transpiring between the two. They were not happy about keeping it secret and spoke to the two about it.  Another thing that bothered Peach Panich was the fact that Zee have not told them that he broke up with Baifern. According to every one they were still together and were still seen together. Zee would away see Nunew during the daytime and then spend time with Baifern in the evening. Peach broached the subject with Zee and told him he can't be with both and he told her that although he really want to be with Nunew he still has feelings for Baifern and he is confused as to what he really wants. That is why he told Nunew to wait for him while he studied and that they can be a couple once he is done.

Peach flipped at Zee's answer. Did I raise you to play with people's feelings and lives? Why are you being so indecisive? You are askimg Nunew to wait for you? Can you guarantee that you will be his after four years? You need to decide and decide quickly and not string Nunew along. Its just wrong. You know how precious he is to us and you are playing with his feelings? I don't care about Baifern but don't do this to Nunew she shouted.   I know ma Zee said I will decide who is more important.

But Zee could not decide. He wanted his Nhu in his life and wanted to see  him as much as possible before he goes away. After that he will only see him during holidays.  He knows he is being selfish but now that he realsied what his Nhu meant to him he will make sure he stays in Nunew's life. The next four years must just go quick. He keeps his mother's words in the back of his mind but keep telling himself that things will work out. He just need some time to sort himself out. He didn't know love can be so confusing.

The day of Zee departure arrived. Nunew tried to keep his face straight but his heart ached so much. He clung to Zee as they spent some alone time at Zee's house. Savoring the last few moments together. It would be months before they see each other again and a phone or video call is not the same as seeing each other face to face. Nunew steeled his resolve that he would work very hard at his studies to make Zee proud and to finally get out of his prison. Just a few more months he said to himself. Finally it was time for Zee to go and he greeted his parents and Nunew and drove away.

Now don't be s stranger the Panichs said to Nunew. We are here if you need some space. Come over when you want to. We know you are not happy at home so come talk to us when you need to speak to someone. We can't do anything if you don't tell us what's going on. Nunew just smiled and hug them both in thanks. At last he has someone who he can share his burden with.

The new term started and Nunew threw himself into his school work. Doing extra work to earn credits and in the meantime also prepare for his finals which will be in a few months. His teachers are his support system at school and encourage him to do his best. A few of them suggested universities he could apply at that would suit his dream to become a teacher. Nunew told them his dream changed and that he is set on becoming a child care worker. What he did not say is that his own experience at home is the driving force behind all of his decisions.

During this time Nunew has no problems with his parents. He stays out of their way and make sure that he does nothing to agitate them. He know they still watching and waiting for him to do something so they could punish him but he is really carefull. In the meantime Nunew used more of the money his grandparents left him. He rented some storage in the next town and little by little moved some of his stuff there. He did it when his parents went away for the weekend which they now frequently does now that Tee is away.  The first to go was his recording equipment in the basement. They almost never went there so they won't miss it immediately.  To be more independent he got him a weekend job. His parents surprisingly agreed to this as they would have to spend  less money on him if he started earning. That suited him really well because it meant he spent less time at home. The weekend job he got was at a shelter in the poorer side of town. Although he got paid little he was happy to help other people. Nunew also made a point of visiting the Panichs when his shift was over. He grew really close to them.

One day after school he heard someone call him as he was on his way to the library to study for an hour or two. He turned around and saw, Nat , James and Yim approaching him. How are you? Nat asked. I'm good and you? Nunew politely answered. Oh we okay Nat answered. So what are you doing this weekend? Want to hang out Nat asked again. Nunew looked at them. James and Yim could not look him in the eye. Even Nat looked everywhere but at him.   Oh yeah, their boyfriends are gone to uni now they have no one to spend weekends with. Now they remember me Nunew said in his mind. I'm busy weekends he said. I have a weekend job to earn some money for myself. He continued. They were surprised to hear that. Why would you want to work if you have wealthy parents Yim asked. Nunew wanted to explain but decided not to. The less they know of his plans the better for him. They just might spill his plans to their boyfriends and it could end up with his parents knowing everything. No, he thought they can't know. He excused himself and left the trio. You brother was right you know James now said. Nunew stopped and looked at them. What was he right about? Nunew asked with a blank face knowing what the answer would be. You are needy and wants all the attention on yourself James bluntly told him. Nunew could not help but gasp. So that's why they pushed me away. They believed him. Them who I considered my best friends. Whom I shared every thing with. Nunew thought to himself. I am glad you believed him he said as he slowly walked closer to them. At least I learned what true friendship means. You three taught me that during the past few months. I'm glad you distanced yourself from me. No I can turn my back on you without feeling guilty. With that he walked away.

Only a few more months he said to himself as he entered the library.

Nunew now lives for weekends. Taking care of children at the shelter is so rewarding for him. All they ask for is love and care. It makes him forget about his own circumstances. He takes his break times to brush up on his studies to make a phone call to Zee. They talk almost every day and he misses him very much. He can't wait for the term to end so they can see each other.  He wants to tell him about his plans. About him that will be graduating soon and that he decided to study for advanced child care and social services at the same uni as Zee. They would be able to see each other almost every day. He was so excited to see and tell Zee.

Just a few more months he said to himself smiling. Then I will be free
