Chapter One: Waver

The autumn leaves crunched beneath my feet, steps being strong yet weak. Legs trembling, yet forcefully stomping onto the ground. Breath heavy, yet short. The colder getting air, announcing the upcoming winter, slightly brushed against my numb and dirty skin. My eyes were half-lidded as I walked over the fields along some path, without a real goal.

I was almost starved down to death and I knew it was only a matter of time until I finally bite the dust. My hand wandered weakly upon my skinny stomach which didn't even grumble anymore. I couldn't even remember the last time I ate something, anything more than a few crumbles. But today was not my lucky day. The times where I could steal were over, my body was to weak to run away in the meantime, so the only option left for me was to rummage trash cans, hoping people tossed away some treasures or begging. But like I said, today luck was not on my side, I neither found anything nor someone gave me anything.

This has been going on for half a year now. Six months I've been living on the streets now, and I somehow managed to survive this far, but as time passed by I doubted I'd be making it any longer. I panted with every step, wanting to find a somewhat reasonable spot to spend the night. The one I used to sleep has been taken over by others who noticed I was getting weaker and weaker and couldn't defend myself any longer. Basically I was an easy target by now. I only found more and more reasons why I won't be making it any longer.

I sighed as I dragged my legs towards a bridge and after I reached the middle of it, I stopped, turning my head to the right. There was a river and the sunset beautifully mirrored its red-pinkish color of dawn in it. Birds were chirping and bugs flew around. The nature was so beautiful... I was amazed how contrary that was to my life. Beautiful, yet so cruel...

I stood there for a few minutes, embracing the view I had. After a few minutes I felt my mind getting cloudy and vision becoming a little blurry, I felt really dizzy.

Great....it's coming..., I thought to myself as I turned around and leaned with my back against the small wall of the bridge, sliding down slowly. I closed my eyes, my head spinned around, my breath became heavy. For what seemed like an enternity, I remained there on the bridge in a crouched down position with closed eyes, panting.

Until I felt someone standing infront of me. At first I didn't care, it made no difference now if someone decides to end me. But since the person didn't move nor made any move, curiosity got the best of me and I slowly looked up with half-closed eyes.

An....angle?

Someone with wings widely spread stood infront of me, looking down on me.

So I am dead...

But then he crouched down infront of me and my blurry vision got a better view of his face. My eyes widened as much as possible in my state as I started to recognize the features of his face.

"K.....eigo...?"
