Chapter 8: The Upside Down

Jonathan, Nancy and Alex pulled up outside the byres house and got all the weapons that they took from the police station out of the trunk of the car. As Nancy and Jonathan set up the trap for the Demogorgon Alex was practicing little tricks with her powers. Such as shooting little balls of energy at things and lifting random objects. 

"Remember." Jonathan began.

"Straight into wills room and." Nancy continued. "don't step on the trap." Jonathan warned.

"Wait for the yo-yo to move." Nancy said before Jonathan flicked open the lighter. "And if that doesn't work..." He trailed off as the two looked to Alex who had a scared but determined look on her face.

"You ready?" Jonathan asked the two. Nancy responded with a "Ready." but Alex only nodded. They brought the knives up to their hands and paused for a moment. "On three. One... two... You don't have to do this." Jonathan said noticing the scared look on Nancy's face.

"Jonathan stop talking." She said.

"I'm just saying you don't have to-" But he was interrupted by Nancy saying "Three." After that the three of them cut their hands to lure the Demogorgon.

Alex was trying to heal the cut on her hand with her powers closing up the wound and leaving a scar. "Did you hear that?" Nancy asked as she jumped at a sound in the distance. "It was just the wind." Jonathan insisted. The voices in Alex's head came back and she looked up to the ceiling sighing heavily trying to ignore the loud voices circling her head. 

The voices stopped and Alex was brought out of her daze when she heard a loud banging at the door. "Jonathan?" Steve yelled through the door. Alex furrowed her brows. Why was he here? "Are you there man It's Steve. Listen i just wanna talk." 

Nancy opened the door and began talking to Steve warning him to leave. Alex stood up and stood next to Jonathan. She couldn't hear them clearly but all of a sudden Steve barged in to see the house a complete mess and all of the weapons. There was a lot of yelling over each other and Alex didn't know what to do she couldn't hear anyone properly but heard Steve ask her "Have you always been bald?"

Nancy grabbed the gun and pointed it at Steve. "Steve! Get out!" She yelled. Steve stared at her wide eyed. "Wait, what? What is going on?!" Steve screamed. At that moment Alex strangely was reminded of Dustin and his needless screaming.

"You have five seconds to get out of here." Nancy threatened. Alex was about to use her powers to tell him to leave but as she stepped forward Jonathan stuck his arm out to stop her. Silently telling her that Nancy had it under control. 

The voices in Alex's head became louder again, so Alex sat on the sofa and covered her ears. she instantly stood up once she saw the lights start to flicker. "Nancy." Jonathan tried to alert her.

"Nancy." he said louder to when the girl ignored him. Alex ran up to her. "Nancy! The lights!" She yelled, finally getting the girls attention. Jonathan grabbed the bat and stood back to back with the other two girls. Nancy was holding her gun as Alex's hands began glowing. At this point it didn't matter if Steve found out. Said boy was still screaming. About the bat, about the lights and about Alex's glowing hands. 

"Where is it?" Jonathan questioned frantically. "I don't know." Nancy asked. as everyone panicked voices overlapped Alex couldn't take the voices in the room and in her head. "Everyone! Just be quiet and focus!" she yelled as the Demogorgon started crawling out of the ceiling. 

Nancy began shooting at it with her gun while Alex was throwing balls of energy at her. Jonathan grabbed Nancy and pushed her down the hallway, grabbing Steve and dragging him with them. Steve grabbed Alex's wrist and pulled her with them. They all jumped over the bear trap and int Wills room.

"Jesus! Jesus! What the hell is that!" Steve screamed causing Nancy and Jonathan to yell at him to "Shut up!"

Alex walked to Steve and looked at him. "That is the Demogorgon, a monster from a different dimension called the Upside Down. It took Will Byres and killed Barbra and others. I am a science experiment from Hawkins lab with powers and yes I've always been bald." Alex summarised. Steve stared at her wide eyed as if she was crazy. Except he could not deny that what was said was true. There was pretty clear proof. 

There was silence from outside the room and the lights had stopped flickering. "Do you hear anything?" Nancy asked to be sure. "No." Jonathan responded. They slowly left the room to see the rest of the house empty. 

Steve began yelling "This is crazy" as he went to the phone and began dialing a number. Nancy immediately took the phone out of his hands and threw it across the room. "What are you doing? Are you insane?" he yelled.

"It's going to come back. so you need to leave. Right now." Nancy explained. And without hesitation Steve ran out of the house. The lights then began to flicker again as Alex prepared to fight. It was obvious plan A didn't work. So time for plan B. Her.

Her hands began glowing as she looked around the room. The lights then completely turned off and there was silence for a moment. The Demogorgon then appeared behind Jonathan and pinned him to the ground. Just as it was about to attack him Alex sent a massive ball of energy toward it throwing it into the wall.

It leapt towards her scratching her lower abdomen. Alex let out a loud yell in pain. Just as the Demogorgon was about to  attack her again Steve had grabbed the bat and hit the Demogorgon with it. Steve kept hitting the Demogorgon into the trap with help from one last burst of energy from Amelia.

"He's in the trap!" Jonathan yelled. He quickly lit the lighter and chucked it towards the Demogorgon. Setting it on fire as the monster let out a blood curdling screech. Jonathan grabbed the fire extinguisher and put out the fire. The Demogorgon was gone.

"Where did it go?" Nancy asked. "It has to be dead. It has to be." 

The Christmas lights one by one started glowing signalling that there was someone in the upside down. The four followed the Christmas lights. "Mom? Is that you?" Jonathan whispered. They followed the lights to the flickering lampposts outside. 

"Where's it going?" Nancy asked. "I don't think that's the monster."  Jonathan stated.

Alex all of a sudden had a bad feeling in her stomach. "The kids." she said causing Nancy, Jonathan to look at her with fear and Steve with confusion.
