Ruby smiled as he arrived at Lilycove City. Now to find Sapphire.
"Where would she be..."
He spotted his father and Wally as they waved to him. He went over before noticing what they were looking at. Sapphire looked like she was going to hurt someone as she tried to argue her way out of questions. Wally gulped.
"I've tried talking to her. But those guys are in the way." Ruby frowned before Sapphire finally turned around, her umbrella opening to block out the other side.
"Oh! Don't ignore us!" Ruby slipped a pokeball into his hand before going over, knowing what that meant. "That's it! Dragonite! Dragon Breath!"
A roar filled the air before the attack attempted to hit the female. It got blocked, instead going around her like the umbrella blocked. The attack stopped in confusion.
"Eh?" Norman chuckled as Wally glanced at him.
"Know the signs. That's how they work." Wally raised an eyebrow before the smoke cleared, showing a Shedinja in the way. Ruby got to Sapphire's side as she hummed.
"Thanks." He nodded before returning the pokemon and leading her away from the group, who was still confused.
~
Wally and Norman caught up with the duo as Sapphire took a breather. She smiled as she finished calming down.
"Mr. Norman, your child is still nuts." Ruby shrugged as Norman chuckled. She then stood up and smiled at Wally. "So sorry about that. You were saying?" He blinked before smiling.
"I was hoping to battle you..." Ruby whispered something into her ear, getting a hum. She nodded.
"Alright." He blinked, surprised.
~
Ruby knew that Wally was far from defeating Sapphire. But he knew that this was a good test for the kid. His attempt wasn't bad. His team; Kirlia, Kecleon, Roselia, Flygon, Grovyle, and Magneton were able to keep up with her team; Swampert, Beautifly, Gardevoir, Altaria, Plusle, and Castform. But she still had many levels above him as she took him down. Not that Ruby would have a chance. She smiled after his Grovyle fell.
"Not bad. I say a bit more work and you might have more of a chance." Oh, wording it like that was better than anything else. They grouped up beside the battle as he paused.
"Really?" Ruby smiled.
"You have more of a chance than I do." Hearing the snicker escape from the female said it all.
"Ruby, you would end up in a hospital if we fight." A frown overtook the smile as he looked down. She wasn't wrong. She then looked at Wally. "Focus on bonding with your pokemon. If they can trust you and each other, then that'll make your battles much easier." He smiled.
"Ok! Thanks!" He then ran over, getting giggles from the trio. She then sighed.
"Well... I've reached out to the others. They might not be able to be here now, but they still want to come south and meet." Ruby nodded.
"Yes ma'am."
"Now lift your head. You still have two more gym leaders to face. Get going." He smiled before nodding.
