While I worked to restore Duncan's soul, I was called to assist the Marleybonians in Celestia. I almost said no if Professor Balestrom didn't mention Astral Magic.
I had read about it and was very interested in working with the magic. Ambrose had also mentioned that someone like me could teach it at Ravenwood since my school was still marked as unknown (He hoped that the Book of Secrets couldn't give Astral Magic to students without a professor to teach it. I told him I would give it some thought).
So I agreed to go, seeing if I could find a cure for the soul there as well.
It was exhausting, but I helped out through their search, opening up the three magics. It was when I went to collect the Sun Magic did I learn the problem.
"Look who it is." I steadied my breathing as I eyed the woman, who looked like she ruled spiders for a living. Fuck my life.
Even after all was said and done, I hadn't found a cure. But I did discover two things.
1: Queen Calypso mentioned that the soul was cloudy. I didn't understand what she meant, but I decided to look into it later.
2: The woman, Morganthe, exposed my aura. That got me thinking. How many people could read my aura?
I sat down in my dorm and concentrated on the soul, looking for the cloud. I then got hit by a vision. It was blurry, but it didn't need to be clear for me to realize what the problem was. Malistaire had used this soul to orchestrate most of his work. The Undead that helped break Meowiarty out? This soul helped there. Awakening the Onis and Kroks? This soul was the lead help with that. All of the ghosts and Undead in Dragonspire? Take a guess. While Malistaire didn't need help, this soul was making it easier for him. I gulped as I concentrated my aura on it, trying to cleanse it. It was not working, which meant I had to keep looking.
I let the others know. Duncan was stuck in another class (Oh, did we make fun of him for it. He looked bored), so we weren't worried about him overhearing us. Malorn hummed.
"I wouldn't doubt it. Duncan was Malistaire's star pupil." A snicker escaped Penny as Duncan slammed his head on the desk. Declan instantly winced as Malorn continued. "Duncan looked up to him as well. So when Malistaire lost it, I'm sure Duncan recklessly said something like 'I'll stay by your side' or 'If you need assistance, I am here' or some bullshit like that. Either way, Duncan got himself roped into that and we all got pulled in afterwards..." He sighed as the class was let out, in which Duncan was the first one out the door and joining their huddle.
"If my schedule says I am in that class, you guys need to convince the teacher I'm sick." The other Death Students chuckled as he shot a look back at the school. He then glared at them before Declan spoke.
"I told you not to take the class." The others lost it as Duncan growled.
"And Mr. Lincoln told me that it was either I take it and graduate or I have to wait two years for a substitute!"
"Should've waited two years. You will fail that class and then not graduate." Duncan groaned as I scoffed.
"You know what? I'm off to annoy that teacher." The laughter only grew as I charged in.
