“Abhi tumlog ki 6 mahine ki anniversary hai na, beta? Jaldi se theek hoja, tujhe jaana hai na uske paas,” Ammi spoke softly, caressing my cheek. I nodded weakly, and she gave me a reassuring smile before leaving the room to give me some time to rest.
As she left, I leaned back against the pillows, feeling the weight of her words. Six months. It felt like a lifetime since Siddharth and I had been together, yet it also felt like such a short time. The pain and longing in my heart were overwhelming.
The room was quiet except for the soft ticking of the clock. I closed my eyes, trying to summon the strength to get better.
Lying in bed with a drip in my hand, I stared out the window, my eyes reflecting nothing but betrayal. It had been a month since I discovered the truth. Baba’s confrontation with Siddharth replayed in my mind like a haunting echo. I hadn’t spoken to him since; I was paralyzed by the lack of courage.

“Baba, please, meri baat Shehnaaz se karva dijiye. Hua kya hai? Koi kuch batayega mujhe?”
“Siddharth, hume sab pata hai. Tu Afreen ke saath rehta hai. Apna yeh natak band kar. Shehnaaz ko sab pata hai,” Baba’s voice was laced with anger. Tears rolled down my face again.
After a painful pause, he sorrowfully murmured, “Kya meri Naazo ne mera bharosa nahi kiya?” His voice cracked, and my heart pounded at his broken tone. Why did he sound so heartbroken?
“Baba, please meri baat karwao na Naazo se. Woh aise kaise kisi ki bhi baat par bharosa kar sakti hai? Main marr raha hoon uske bina,” he pleaded, his voice quivering with sobs. I clutched the locket he had given me, trying to steady my thudding heart.
