𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗣𝗢𝗩,

She froze for a moment, staring at her father, who was glaring angrily at her. She held her cheek, tears streaming down her face. “Kya kar rahe hain aap!!” Siddharth shouted, his voice echoing through the empty shop. He took Saad from Arshiya and held Shehnaaz, who was sobbing and looking at her abbu.

“Ghar par jhoot bolkar iske saath ghumne aayi hai! Sharam nahi aati raat ko ghair ladkon ko apne kamre mein bulane se!!” Arbaz yelled at her. Siddharth positioned himself between Shehnaaz and Arbaz, covering her view. Shehnaaz clung to his back, crying loudly. From the corner of her eye, she saw Abraham smirking in triumph. It dawned on her that this was Abraham’s plan all along.

“Aapko problem mujhse hai, toh aap mujhse baat karein! Uspar haath kyun uthaa rahe hain! Himmat kaise hui aapki naazo par haath uthane ki?” Siddharth shouted, shielding her. She clutched his shirt tightly as he turned to her and gently wiped her tears, cupping her face. “Yeh sab Abraham ne kiya hai,” she murmured. Siddharth gritted his teeth and hugged her tighter as she cried. Eventually, she was pulled away from him by his father.

“Ab bhi sharam nahi aa rahi tum logon ko!” Arbaz asked in disgust, making Siddharth roll his eyes. “Hum kuch galat nahi kar rahe the, sirf aise hi ghumne aaye the aur kuch nahi,” Siddharth tried to explain, hoping to save Shehnaaz. Shehnaaz’s tears ceased as she looked at him with empty eyes. He doesn’t love you, Shehnaaz. He won’t fight for you.

“Main kaise maan loon ke kuch nahi kar rahe the! Naam kharab kar rahe honge tum log!” Arbaz’s voice rose again. “Arre, main aapko kaise yakeen dilaoon hum yahan koi galat kaam nahi kar rahe hain. Cousins hain, ghumne aaye hain, Ashu-maa ne mujhe ijazat di hai, unko pata hai main iss insaan ki tarah neech nahi hoon!” Siddharth shouted, pointing at Abraham in frustration.

The argument continued. “Kuch nahi! Kuch nahi! Kuch nahi!” Shehnaaz’s mind kept repeating. Slowly, she walked over to Saad, holding him in her arms and kissing his forehead tenderly. “I love you, my baccha,” she whispered, then handed Saad to Siddharth, who looked confused. She turned back to Arbaz. “Main aapki har saza ke liye taiyaar hoon, abbu,” she said.

“Beti ho tum meri, tumhe saza nahi desakta. Bas tum Abraham se shaadi karlo aur vaada karo ke iske aas paas bhi nahi bhatkogi,” Arbaz spoke strictly. Shehnaaz nodded silently. Arbaz took her hand and placed it in Abraham’s. “Nahi!” Siddharth shouted, but Arbaz stood firm between them.

“Iski zimmedaari tumhari hai!” Arbaz placed her hand on Abraham’s head. Abraham nodded and handed the flowers back to Shehnaaz, who accepted them with a blank expression. Abraham hugged her, and she closed her eyes, disgusted as his hands roamed over her back.

“Maine kaha na nahi!!” Siddharth roared, pushing Abraham away from Shehnaaz and pulling her into a protective hug. He looked at Arshiya, signaling her to take Saad away.

“Dekhiye, thande dimag se sochiye, maana main Shehnaaz se pyaar nahi karta us tarah, par uski shaadi iss darinde se nahi kar sakte aap! Aap nahi chahte meri naazo se shaadi ho, thik hai, par—” Siddharth tried to reason, but Shehnaaz pushed him away. “Nahi karte na pyaar toh jao!” she shouted in frustration. “Naazo…” Siddharth’s voice cracked, his vision blurring, mirroring hers.

“Meri baat sun!” Siddharth tried to approach her, but Abraham intervened. Siddharth shoved him aside angrily. “Tu kaun hota hai beech mein aane?” Siddharth roared.

“Uska hone wala shohar hoon main, maar bhi doon tujhe kya!!” Abraham countered, his frustration boiling over, shocking everyone. “Kuch bhi karu tujhe kya!!” He shouted further, grabbing Shehnaaz’s arms tightly. “Bol! Kuch lena dena hai tera uske saath?” He roared, making Shehnaaz freeze in terror. The person she had started to like said there was nothing between them, and the person she was about to marry was this monster?

Tears streamed down her face. She tried to pull away from Abraham’s vice-like grip but he held on tighter. Tearfully, she looked at her silent parents, then at Siddharth, whose anger was palpable. “Siddharth…” she whispered weakly. Siddharth could no longer contain himself. He punched Abraham in the face once, twice, thrice, until Abraham’s nose bled.

Arbaz intervened and slapped Siddharth. “Aap mujhe maar rahe hain!!” Siddharth exclaimed in shock. Arbaz didn’t respond and handed Saad to Siddharth. He took Arshiya’s and Shehnaaz’s hands and walked away with Abraham in tow.

Siddharth placed Saad on a bench, drank some water to calm his anger, and took deep breaths. He comforted Saad, who was crying loudly. “Kuch nahi hoga teri phuppi ko... phuppi aur chachu dono strong hain na? Hum ladenge aur uss langoor ko door karenge,” he reassured Saad, who giggled slightly. Siddharth then picked him up and slung his bag over his shoulder.

He sat on his bike, sighed heavily, and made Saad comfortable before starting the engine. As he encountered some traffic, he sighed again.

When he heard someone say, “Haan, bahut buri lagi hai dono ko bhi,” he clicked his tongue in frustration.

“Kya hua bhaisaab?” Siddharth asked, frowning. “Samne chaar log jaa rahe the, unme se ek gussa mein tha, rash driving kar raha tha aur accident ho gaya. Ab har taraf khoon, broken glass aur phool bikhre pade hain. Kisi ne madad nahi ki uss bechari aurat ki,” the man replied disappointedly.

Siddharth’s heart raced. Rash driving... abraham... flowers...?

“Nahi! Nahi!” he shouted, dismounting his bike. “Shehnaaz!!” he yelled, pushing through the crowd, and found her drenched in blood. The sound of her cries filled his mind. He collapsed on his knees with Saad in his arms, hugging him tightly, hiding his face in Saad’s neck as he cried out loud.
