Sam's presence in Kat's life was a destructive force. As Kat's confidante and roommate, Colby witnessed firsthand the devastation Sam's relentless cheating wreaked on Kat's heart. Every time Sam hurt her, it hurt Colby too. Those late nights when Kat would seek refuge in his bed, pouring out her tears and whiskey-fueled rants about Sam, revealed the painful truth.

And as Kat's roommate and best friend, Colby was perpetually caught in the crossfire of his 'relationship' with Sam—one that was practically open, only on Sam's end. Colby would listen to their late-night arguments over the phone and witness the tension when Sam came by to pick up his things. It felt as though he were living the relationship alongside Kat, experiencing every high and low through her pain and anger with her.

And despite all of Kat's tearful vows to move on and promises to never take Sam back, she always found herself drawn back to him.

Colby carried her burden in his heart, never able to forgive Sam. To be honest, he hated him—his walk, his talk, the way he bit her lip when he listened to Colby berate him for how he treated Kat, how he'd show up unannounced, knowing Colby would be the only one home, how he breezed in with a casual, almost arrogant familiarity. His charm and the fake squeaky-clean persona that deceived so many only fueled Colby's resentment, because he saw through the façade that fooled his fans and everyone who knew him casually.

To Colby, he was nothing but a tall, blonde-headed casanova who couldn't keep it in his pants to save his life. He hated Sam beyond say, and Kat knew that well.

Which is why Colby wants to kill her when Sam shows up at his figurative apartment doorstep, prattling on about how Kat invited him and that he's NOT trying to win her back—because he already has, simply by doing nothing. Colby's seething as he steps aside and watches him scoop Kat up into his big arms, clad in a black suit. Tonight was supposed to be a reprieve—a night out to distract Kat from her heartbreak and give them both a chance to unwind, but Sam's presence is a crushing blow to that hope.

As Colby fumed while standing in line, awaiting Sam to finish his call, Kat tries to explain herself, which only makes him more infuriated, alcohol working the opposite way in him at just the sight of Sam and the words of Kat. "He gave me all his passwords, I check his phone whenever I want, and he goes straight to practice and then back to his house."

He scoffs. "Bet you he's on the phone with another girl right now. Fucking twat." He shake his head. "Hey!" Kay interjects, "He's changed, Colby, trust me." she insists, sounding rather unsure of it herself.

When Sam's celebrity status lets them all skip the line, he's just grateful for the chance to get more drinks in his system and chase away the unsettling feeling of his presence. Apparently, so is Kat. Despite her recent assurances of Sam's commitment and honesty, Kat clings to him as if her very happiness depends on it while she pounds back drinks as if she's trying to drown out her doubts.

Colby tries to enjoy the night as best as he can, finally tuning out Kat's emotional jargon and letting Sam handle it. Losing himself in the drinks, perhaps an hour later, he texts his somewhat, kinda, not really boyfriend about how horny he's feeling. He suggests he goes to the bathroom and send him some "cute" pictures.
