Y/n's POV

Jake has been staring at me for God knows how long now. I could feel it. And then Niki joined him and even though his stare radiated love, I almost couldn't feel it because of Jake's burning eyes staring straight into my soul. It looked like I kill Layla or something.

I would never do that. I love Layla. She is our family dog and usually lives with Jake and me but for the past couple weeks she has been with our cousins because they also have a dog of same breed as Layla.

"I want you to stay away from Niki." Jake didn't hesitate for a second as he poured a glass of water for himself when we entered the kitchen. I blinked before trying to understand if I heard him right.

"What?" I asked, my voice almost cracked but I couldn't let Jake hear it. Not when it came to his best friend.

"You heard me. I'm not saying you should avoid him at any cost, although it would be perfect..." Jake trailed off for a split second before turning around to face me and continued "I'm sure staying away from him wouldn't be a problem for you. I mean, you two haven't gotten along very well since the beginning. Right?" Jake sipped on his water, not breaking eye contact with me.

You know, even if you have the best relationship with your sibling and they are truly one of the best things in your life, sometimes you really want to punch them in their face as hard as you could. Right now, I tried not to punch Jake in his face while there's people over at our house.

"Jake, he is constantly at our house. How am I supposed to stay away from him when he's always here?" I tried to sound dead serious.

"This is the last time we're meeting at our house. Don't worry, I will take care of this. All you need to worry about is avoiding him for the rest of today. Got it, Y/n?" Jake's tone was unrecognizable. He never talked to me in that controlling tone.

I knew that bickering with him now will make no difference so I shut up and nodded slightly while looking down.

"I'm just trying to protect you Y/n." Jake said when I turned around to leave. I didn't say anything. "Y/n." Jake said louder when I started walking away.

I continued walking away from him and straight to the staircase when I heard Jake yell my name for the last time.

I left to my room and locked the door behind me. I was frustrated and upset about Jake's point of view towards Niki. But I also didn't want to make Jake more angry. And if waiting a bit meant I could be with Niki for the rest of my life so be it. I will do it.

But Niki needs to know this too.
