I woke up in Mac's arms, we managed to pull ourselves to bed last night despite how easy it would have been to stay in front of the warm glow of the fire. Mac was already awake and on his phone. "Hey" I said quietly, he stopped on his phone and glanced down, half smiling. "Why didn't you wake me up?" I wondered how long he had been awake for, hoping it hadn't been long enough for me to do something embarrassing in my sleep.

"Not long, I was just texting Mum. The girls have built an outside fort using all her sofa cushions" I put a hand to my mouth thinking about the nice, cream coloured couch. "Little trouble makers". Mac laughed and put his phone on the table next to him. The he turned towards to me, just holding me close.

"Last night was so much"

"Yeah. I knew you'd like it"

"I can understand why you boys all love music so much"

Mac took a deep breath, he'd probably never been this open with anyone. Apart from maybe the band, it made me feel special to know that I could understand him in a way that not many got to.

He stoked my hair, it felt blissful. It was soon interrupted by the sound of voices outside. My eyes shot to Mac, he looked just a confused. No one else should be here.

"That's not the master bed-"

The door opened, making both me and Mac jump. I held the covers to my chest trying to keep myself covered. In the doorway stood the woman we had seen with his Dad a few months back, when we had our mini golf day. James came into view behind her. They both looked shocked to see us. Especially in bed... naked.

I suddenly felt on display, wishing the mattress would swallow me up. I glanced at Mac. He just looked furious.

"What the fuck is this?" he said through gritted teeth. The woman moved out of the way and his Dad stepped in. I gripped the duvet tighter wishing they would go somewhere else to talk. "Why don't you get dressed and we can talk". He shut the door and we heard them going back down the stairs.

Mac flung the duvet of him, furiously looking for his clothes. I also got dressed, eliminating the chance of any more awkward visits. I'd barely pulled my dress down by the time Mac had flung open his door and was running downstairs. I stayed where I was.

I hated how quickly the mood could change. One minute everything was perfect and then the next... It's funny how all it takes sometimes is just that one person.

I heard raised voices and closed my eyes. I knew this was going to be hard for Mac to process. I just hoped he would be able to keep control of himself this time.

"Mac, I own this house you can't tell me who I can or can't bring here"

"This is our family home and you've bought you're white. I think that's a big different"

"Don't talk about Sonya that way"

"Oh? So you have respect for her but not the mother of your own children?"

"Look at what she created! And she wonders why I fell out of love with her. Maybe if she could keep a tight leash on you I wouldn't have looked elsewhere"

I heard a loud thus and knew that Mac had hit James. In a way I didn't blame him. They were such cruel words, especially coming from your own Dad.

Mac came pounding back up the stairs. "grab your shirt, we're leaving". I didn't question it or ask him any questions. I knew it was best not to. As we left I saw quick glance of James and Sonya on the sofa. James was holding a blood stained tissue to his nose. Sonya had her hand on James' back watching us as we left.

Mac was silent the whole way home. I don't even know how to describe how angry he was. Its like it was radiating of him. I could just see it in his face, his vibe, everything. I tried to ask him if he was okay but he didn't reply.

Too angry to even talk. That's how angry.

I couldn't tell if it was because James brought Sonya to the cabin, or the comments he'd made about Mac and his Mum. Either way, that funny, romantic, care free guy was gone.

He dropped me of at the same place I had met him just two nights ago. The goodbye felt awkward, I didn't know weather to kiss him or not, I didn't know what to say. "I'll text you" he said very quietly. I nearly didn't hear him. It was the first thing he'd said since we left the cabin. I squeezed his hand, hoping it would help. I knew it wouldn't. I just wanted him to know I was there.

He just stared down at our hands then looked out of the window. He needed space and some time. The only thing I could actually do for him was to give him that. So I got out of the car and started to walk back to Tom's. Mac didn't drive away just yet, he waited for me to turn the corner before speeding of back down the road.

I walked through the door and was greeted with Tom's cheery face. Chloe was also still here, it was good to see them both after the morning that had gone horribly wrong. Tom sat and listened to my fake story about the writing exhibition I had gone on, Chloe sat behind him. I could tell she wasn't believing any of it for once second.

When Tom went for a shower she came into my room to question me.

"I'm actually relieved that you know it was a lie" I said. We were both laid down the bed. Chloe propped herself up on her elbow. "Why?". I stared up at my ceiling. "It's one less person that I've gotta lie to"

I told her about the entire getaway. Excluding the more intimate parts, which was useless because she saw every time I blushed and then hit me with a million questions about it. She was oddly very curious and my sex life with Mac.

By the time I had to the end she realised the roller coaster of emotions the two days had actually been,

"Oh Evie... Let's just put aside the Dad situation for a moment. What Mac did in that club was adorable. I am so happy for you" Now I sat up on the bed grinning stupidly to myself, reliving all the good parts. I just wished we could have lived in that moment forever. "Are you guys really gonna tell everyone?" I nodded "Yeah, we agreed to do it once we go back after summer. I'm worried Tom will be upset that I didn't tell him" she rolled her eyes "You're his best friend. If he's anything like his family he's just gonna be happy that you're happy". She sat cross legged in front me, her expression Turing more serious. "As for Mac and his Dad... well. That sounds like a situation you do not want to involve yourself in. Just let him deal with it and he'll talk when he's ready". I made a face, I didn't want to just 'let him deal with it'.

"Seriously Eve. It's fucked up I know, but he says he loves you so he if needs the help he will tell you". I guess she had a point. I hated it when I had to admit she was right. We heard Tom come out of the bathroom, he poked his head through my door.

"Who fancys a milkshake?" both mine and Chloe's face lit up. "I'll take that as a yes" he said and left calling back "We'll go once I'm dressed". We both scrambled of the bed to do the same.
