Chapter 4 - Let You Know

Clove's POV

"Because he had the courage to do what I could never do."

"What?" I ask, simply because I'm not sure if what he is saying is just my imagination.

" Clove, I have been meaning to tell you for a while, I'm going into the games in a year and I wanted to let you know that... Oh dear this is harder than I thought. Um , I "

"Cato, I have something I need to tell you too." I said.

"On three?" He asked. I nodded my head.

"One." I whispered.

"Two." He said

"Three."

"I think I love you." We both said. It took a second to sink in and when it did I immediately lunged forward into the biggest hug I had ever had.

"Why didn't I tell you this years ago?" He asked.

"Haha I don't know but this is the best I have felt in a long time." We both just sat there enjoying each others presence. I watched as he picked up a bright yellow flower and walked over to where I was sitting.

"For you, Miss Sevina." I reached out and grabbed the flower.

"Why thank you, Mr.Hadley," I said.

"Oh dear, that makes me sound like my dad, haha." And so we sat in our place watching the sun go down. Once it had set, we watched the stars and I began to fall asleep. The last thing I saw before drifting off was his eyes, starring lovingly into mine.

Cato's POV

We watched the sun set and the bright stars come out. All this time we were in love and we didn't even know it. I look down at her resting on my shoulder and I know it's meant to be. Oh dang it, time to get home or mom might start to worry. Clove is asleep so I just pick her up and carry her back to her house, let myself in and tuck her in. She looks so peaceful asleep, younger and not as tiered. I give her a quick peck on the cheek and make my way back to my house. It's in the richer part of the village, right by where victors live. My dad is the head peacekeeper and is in charge of overseeing the law control in the district. He is a good father, but he isn't around much. My mother is loving to all three of her kids. I'm the oldest, followed by my 14 year old brother Lukas, and my 10 year old sister Lilly. I love both of them and am greeted by my mother when I come in.

"Where we you mister?"

"At the waterfall, there's something I need to tell you."I said nervously.

"What is it?" My mother asked.

" I kinda got into another fight at the center."

"Cato, you can't keep doing this."

"I know mom, I know, I'm sorry."

"What was the punishment?"

" Two days of suspension from the center." I said.

"Okay then, you know the drill, take some equipment to the lake and train tomorrow."

"Yes, mother, am I allowed to walk Clove to training tomorrow?" I asked.

"Sure, now go eat then get to bed okay?"

"Yes, mother. Goodnight." I step into my room and close the door. I walk in and hop into the shower collecting my thoughts. As the warm water runs over me I think about all that happened today. Dustin likes Clove, I love Clove, I beat up Dustin, Dustin told Clove he likes her, I told Clove I love her, she loves me too. I step out and fall into bed looking at the picture of us on my bedside table. I'm so glad that I let her know.
