Clove's POV
I woke up the next morning in my bed. Wait, how did I even get here? We were at the waterfall and then I fell asleep. Cato must have carried me home. How sweet, I swear that boy never ceases to amaze me. What to wear to training today? My black suit with the blue trim should do, along with my combat boots. I tie up my hair into my usual style, two twist going down into a ponytail. I head downstairs and into the kitchen I get my breakfast together. All of sudden there came a knock at the door. I walked over cautiously, as I open it up Cato yells "Suprise!"
"Shush, some of the neighbors will get annoyed, haha. Why are you here so early anyways?" I ask.
" Well, I figured that I should walk my Clover to the center."
"Wow, you never are on time, but your on time to take me to training even though you can't go. Am I dreaming?"I said sarcastically.
"No, your not dreaming. Do you wanna start walking?"
"Sounds great," I grabbed my jacket and we headed out the door. As we walked down the street he looked down.
"What's wrong?"I asked, I can always tell when something is wrong.
"Are you gonna be okay today?" He said
"Cato I'm gonna be fine, no need to worry about me I can defend myself."
"Sorry, I just worry." He said. We walked up to the center.
"I will see you after training okay?" I said.
"Sure thing, see ya." I walked into school and took a seat. Capitol history, lucky me. District 13 demolished after the great war, yada yada, same stuff I have been hearing for years. History ends and I walk into the hallway only to be pushed aside by Angel. The most "popular" girl in the academy. Also the most annoying.
"Watch where your going!" I yell at her.
"Oh sorry, I guess I couldn't see you. " she says.
"Yeah and I'm sorry that your an idiot," I scowl back.
"Defensive, aren't you shortie? I saw you with Cato and lets just say, you don't stand a chance. He's mine, so back off."
"That's funny considering he beat Dustin to a pulp defending me."
"Well he isn't here to defend you know, huh Shortie." She swings a fist a my face as I swoop down kicking her leg with my own sending her sprawling onto the ground.
"I think you might get dirty laying on the floor like that," I say while smiling sweetly.
"You untalented piece if filth!" She yells.
As I walked off I look behind me, smirking as I yell,
" Untalented? They don't rank me deadliest female in the academy for nothing, sweetheart." I walk into the training center, letting the door slam on the way in. Time to get to work.
Cato's POV
I walk away from the training center with mixed feelings. Will Clove be okay? Oh course she will Cato, she was fine yesterday. But what if people mess with her? Who am I kidding, Clove won't take that crap. Oh dang, what about Dustin. She was ignoring him, don't worry. She loves you, not him. I get to the lake an try to suppress my racing mind by pushing my body to its physical limits. It doesn't help much. Twenty laps around the lake, one hundred push-ups, spears, swords. I go through the cycle all day, only pausing to get small sips of water. At three-thirty I gather my things and start waking toward the center. I get glances from people as I walk by. A boy of my stature not in training is quite an odd sight to see. Just as I arrive the doors open. First out is a girl from my year, Angle. She steps forward and lays her hands on my muscles. I shrug her off as she says flirtatiously,
"Hey there Cato, do you wanna go out to dinner sometime. You, me, under the moonlight. Sounds pretty romantic huh?" I think I might just barf. I spot Clove walk out of the center. I get an evil glare from Angel as I step around her without even saying a word. As I walk toward Clove I heard an annoying high pitched screech from Angels direction. Haha, someone sounds disappointed. Most guys are way into her. Me on the other hand, lets just say I'm not into blonds. I give Clove a quick embrace and we walk hand in hand over to our favorite cafe. The waiter seats us at our usual spot, a window booth that overlooks a small meadow. Its beautiful this time of year, flowers blooming. The sun gently peaking through the clouds and trees. Snow still visible on the mountian tops. Not to mention I'm spending it with the most beautiful girl. As we sit down I casually ask about how training went.
"Well enough." She replied. As if, I can tell when something is wrong and something definitely went wrong at training. Ten years being best friends with someone and all it takes is one look to know that something's up.
"Clover, I'm not buying it. What happened at training?"
"Its not a big deal," she muttered.
"If its not a big deal I'm sure you wouldn't mind telling me about it," I say with a smile.
"Angel." She said bluntly.
"What about Angel?" I ask, very curious about what must have happened. Clove isn't one to have much if a temper.
" She slammed into me coming out of history and I told her to watch it. She told me to watch myself and stay away from you. I said some stuff back, she went at me so I knocked her down and left. Simple really." Clove said smirking. Mhm, that smirk isn't for nothing.
"I know that smile, what was the comeback? What was the last thing you said to her?" I said almost laughing. Clove always gets the last word. Sometimes it scares me how feisty Clove can be if your on her bad side.
"Well she called me untalented so..." she says.
"So... What was it? I'm sure it was brilliant, I can already tell." I smirk
" They didn't rank me deadliest female in the academy for nothing, sweetheart." She gleamed triumphantly. There it is, bam! Right to Angels face, not to mention she really is ranked deadliest in the academy. Trust me, that takes work. By the time the quell comes along she will be beating everyone by a landslide.
"That's my Clover" I said. She is so independent, talented, beautiful. And she is all mine. My lucky, little Clover.
