Chapter 5

"Spill the tea," I said when I introduced Adeline to Chiron. She had heard about Chiron before when we talked about our home in college. She wasn't impressed with how our friendship ended, so I was pleasantly surprised when she gave him a warm smile after shaking his hand.

"Geez, bitch, let me figure out what I want to eat first." She scoffed, pulling the menu. She had a stupid grin, though, which could mean the date went really well or entertainingly awful.

I looked at Chiron. He glanced at me and gave me a tiny smile. His arms were crossed, which told me he was a little guarded toward her because she was someone he didn't know, but the fact that he was willing to hang out with us said a lot. I reached to squeeze his knee, showing my appreciation.

"Okay, screw it," Adeline muttered, earning our attention. She dropped the menu and leaned toward us, a broad, goofy grin on her face. "He's perfect, Rosie! His name is Tate, and we have so much in common. We have another date planned already!"

I gasped, extremely happy for her. Her track record with men was almost as bad as mine. "Yay! Oh my goodness, I'm assuming the date went well?"

Her smile dropped a fraction, and she gave me a sheepish look, "Well, no. It went horribly."

"Huh?" I frowned, tilting my head to the side in confusion. "What happened?"

"His ex showed up claiming they were still together."

Chiron choked on the coffee he was in the middle of drinking and spilled it all over his chin. I quickly handed him a napkin, keeping my attention on Adeline.

"What do you mean?! What the hell?!" I snapped, crossing my arms.

Adeline shook her head, "She started sprouting about how their relationship wasn't over unless she said it was. You know, typical crazy ex-girlfriend shit."

Red flag. I gawked at her, "And what did he say?"

"He told her off. Security came and grabbed her until we were finally alone. But ugh," She had that dreamy look on her face again. "After that nightmare, our date went by smoothly. He's so funny and smart. But he felt so bad, girl. He really wanted a second date, so I said yes."

I leaned back against my chair and stared at her. She only met this guy once in person. But this is Adeline. Once she starts liking someone, she falls fast. Who am I to bring down the happiness of my friend? I looked at Chiron, trying to get his reaction.

He only looked at me. "Sounds like a total dreamboat." He said in a way only I knew meant to be sarcastic.

I let out a surprised giggle, shaking my head. I reached to pinch his side, earning a yelp from him as he smacked my hand away. I kept grinning, turning back to Adeline, who had a smug look on her face.

"What?" I blurted out, confused by the look on her face.

She sipped her water innocently and shook her head, "Nothing. Nothing."

But I knew it was nothing, and she would pounce on me with questions when we were alone at home.

I ignored her and turned my attention to Chiron, "What about you?"

He frowned in confusion, "What about me?"

"Do you have a girlfriend?" I asked, already regretting asking the question.

"Are you asking if I'm single for your friend, Rose?" Chiron asked, giving me his full attention with a raised brow. He then glanced at Adeline, his gaze quickly sweeping her face and down.
