Chapter 29
January 1st, 2023
I lightly traced the silver band on my hand with my thumb, a happy smile gracing my lips as I cherished that I was officially his. After a tumultuous month filled with stressful wedding plans, the unexpected appearance of Marcel, and the subsequent dramatic events, Chiron and I had made a swift decision. We didn't want to wait any longer and chose to ring in the New Year by eloping, with Adeline and Ethan as our witnesses.
I sighed as I felt strong, long arms creep up from behind me, wrapping me like a warm embrace from the cold air. His soft lips caress the side of my neck with tenderness and then up my jaw, making my head fall back against his chest.
"What are you doing out here alone, wifey?" Chiron murmured against my skin, his hand trailing from my stomach and then up to my chest, his fingers tracing my nipple before squeezing my breast.
I sighed, turning my head to look at him, "I just needed some fresh air." I turned around fully to face him, "And I was hoping to draw you out."
Chiron raised his brows in surprise before grinning, "You realized I was tired of hearing Adeline and Ethan's constant bickering and came to my rescue?"
I rolled my eyes, laughing. "Yeah, I don't know what's happening between those two." I then lifted my hand to his face, watching his head lean against it, "I wanted to show you something."
Chiron watched with mild curiosity as I pulled out two pieces of folded paper from my dress pocket. He gasped sharply, seeming to recognize the handwriting when I held them between us.
"No. Fucking. Way." He breathed, staring at them with disbelief and amazement, "They actually mailed it to us?"
I bit my bottom lip, feeling a little embarrassed as I explained, "Technically, they were never mailed in the first place. I forgot to give them to my mom, so they were hidden inside one of my school folders the entire time. I found them."
Chiron's eyes narrowed in feigning annoyance, the corner of his lips quirking upwards. He took the letter I held for him and sighed deeply, reading what he wrote. His brows furrowed when he turned the page around, "Wait, Rose," and then his gaze shot up to mine, widening in realization, "It's been ten years!"
I grinned excitedly, nodding as I looked at my letter. "Yes! I found them a while ago and saved them for this day. The fact that it's also our wedding day is a crazy coincidence."
"No such thing as coincidence," Chiron murmured with his eyes still on his letter.
I couldn't stop the smile glued to my face. "Chiron?"
"Yes?"
"When we were sophomores in high school, you came up with the idea that we write a letter to one another and only read it after ten years," I swallowed hard, lightly waving the letters. "Well, it's officially been ten years. What better day to read it than on our wedding day?"
Chiron stared at me, his grin so bright that I almost dropped to my knees. He nodded and handed back the letter he was holding. "I almost forgot what I wrote, but here you go. From your teenage best friend Chiron," he murmured, as I took the letter.
I smiled back, handing him mine, "A letter from your teenage best friend, Rose."
We stared at each other for a few seconds before his gaze slowly dropped to my letter, and began to read, while I did the same with him.
Dear future Chiron,
Hello! I seriously hope this letter made it through time and space and is now in your hands. If we somehow lose contact with each other, I'll re-introduce myself in case you forgot who I am (Though idk why you would; I'm your best friend!) - My name is Rosalind, but you call me Rose while everyone else calls me Rosie. Idk why you do, but whatever, I'm cool with it.
