Chapter 27
Chiron glared daggers at me from across the living room. Like the brave young woman I am, I took refuge behind Ethan, returning his glare tenfold. Adeline lounged on the couch, wearing a sly smirk and wide-eyed fascination, her head swiveling back and forth as Chiron and I exchanged words.
"Why the hell not?" Chiron barked, crossing his arms as he scowled at me.
"Because we can't just shut down an entire school for the week to use as our wedding venue, Chiron!" I threw my hands up, exasperated. I looked at Adeline, hoping she would help me by saying she agreed. The bitch just grinned back.
"I don't see why not when I can pay them," Chiron scoffed, rolling his eyes and throwing himself on the armchair.
"We're not going to do that," I growled in frustration, sometimes forgetting that Chiron seemingly had endless money. "Like, how do you even have that kind of money?! You know what, never mind. I don't want to know."
Chiron smirked but didn't answer me.
Adeline cleared her throat, "Listen, bud, if you want to spend thousands of dollars for fun, you can donate some to the Help-Adeline-She's-Poor Foundation."
I caught a faint smile tugging at Ethan's lips.
Chiron glanced at her in amusement, "I'm already paying half of your rent."
She waved dismissively, "Do you know how much groceries cost now? It's ridiculous."
Chiron rolled his eyes and turned to me, his gaze narrowing as he noticed I was still positioned behind Ethan. His eyes shifted between Ethan and me, and Ethan caught the hint.
Clearing his throat dramatically, he clapped his thighs loudly and announced, "Welp! I'm just gonna sit over here if that's okay," before moving away from me and gesturing to sit next to Adeline. Her eyes narrowed at him as she scooted away from him with a huff.
Chiron's lips quirked up, "Come here, Rose."
I glared at him, "No."
His brows raised before that scowl appeared again, "Come here, please."
"No," I repeated, a grin threatening to spread my lips when he sighed heavily. "I'm perfectly fine sitting on this chair here," I patted the loveseat I was sitting on.
"You'll be more comfortable on my lap," Chiron drawled with a smirk. From the corner of my eye, I could see Adeline's grin widening and Ethan coughing discreetly.
I looked at him for a few minutes before chuckling. I walked over to him and yelped in surprise when Chiron's arms shot up and wrapped around my waist, pulling me down on his lap.
"Chiron!" I laughed, lightly smacking his arm.
He captured my hand and intertwined our fingers, bringing it up to his lips. "I can't wait to marry you, my love."
I felt my body melt against him, dropping my head on his chest as I kissed his cheek, "I love you, Chiron."
Adeline and Ethan exchanged looks and suddenly stood up, causing Chiron and me to look at them in bewilderment.
"I have work tomorrow morning," Ethan excused himself, waving at us and heading toward the door.
"I have to wash my hair," Adeline said, following him out the door and winking at me. She then gasped, turning back around to me, "Oh! That guy I was telling you about a few weeks ago? I saw him again!"
"Him?" Chiron asked, confused.
"I'll explain later," I reassured him before focusing back on Adeline, "What did he say?"
