Just like any cliche start of a mystery novel, the terrain was dark. The lightning crossed the sky, illuminating Nicholas carrying Sam in his arms for a moment. Drenched by the rain, their clothes served as their skin, heavy breathing, and Sam's crying silenced by the pouring rain.

It was weird how even nature was trying to silence them when they just wanted to get away from their miserable life.

And then there was a girl following the two silently behind. (Y/N) didn't know if her older brother's head lost a few screws with how many times he turned his head to her, but she didn't comment on it. She didn't complain about the mud stuck on her bare feet as she moved. She kept silent even when all she wanted to do was scream.

Nicholas suddenly stopped, turning back and pulling (Y/N) towards him to hide behind a small cave in the forest. He tried to lull and close Sam's mouth to lessen the probability of them getting caught.

His breathing hitched when the flashlight was suddenly pointed at where they were.

"(Y/N)?!"

The girl's eyes opened but immediately closed as the harsh light welcomed her eyes. She heard a familiar voice ordering someone to turn off the light. Slowly, she tried opening her eyes again, it was a little blurry until they adjusted to the environment. Her brows furrowed.

"W-where..." her voice faded, only now feeling her throat dry.

"You don't have to speak if you can't," a man wearing a white coat said, his voice calming. (Y/N)'s suspicion of him being a doctor was confirmed as her eyes landed on the name stitched on the right side of his coat. "Do you recognize him?"

Only then did (Y/N) realize Demetrius was standing next to the doctor. Immediately, she nodded.

"Do you remember what happened before you got here?"

"Ye-... Yes," she said.

Surprisingly, she didn't react the way Demetrius and Enzo thought she would react as she recollect what happened on the cruise ship. The girl looked more puzzled than worried about what happened to the others.

Even so, Enzo calmly walked towards (Y/N), checked her vital signs, and examined if she could swallow safely so that they could give her water. Demetrius continued to stand in the room. The male didn't initiate any conversation or make the smallest of sounds, he just observed and waited until Enzo left the room to instruct someone on the phone on what medicine to get.

"You can give her water now, by the way," Enzo said.

Now that the two were alone in the room, the atmosphere became cold. There wasn't any tension whatsoever, it's just that the two didn't know how to address what had happened.

After (Y/N) finished her water, she asked, "H-how long have I-I've been here?"

"It's been two weeks," Demetrius answers. "Do you want to rest more?"

"No," (Y/N) then looked at her hands, "Can you tell me what happened after the explosion?"

"Well, I saved you-"

"No, you didn't," (Y/N) countered. "And I meant the day after that."

(Y/N) already pieced together what had transpired and Demetrius' plans. Now, if his father's and Loid's and Yor's plan didn't work, surely there would be different happenings in Berlint at this very moment seeing that a political figure was attacked along with distinguished scholars.

"So you've already read my mind in just a few minutes."

"And you know that I can," she replied quickly. "Look, I'm thankful for you because you saved my life, but if turns out to be a plan to get me on your family's side then fuck you."
