"Mom I'm home" I shouted as I walked through the door of the three bed, craftsmañ style house I lived in with my mom and my brother. "You would not belive the day I've had" I dumped my bag on the floor near the door and sat down on the stairs to take off my boots "first off Barny was a complete sleeze as usual, then once I was done my stupid car wouldn't start" I walked through to the sitting room not stopping my complaining. "Then I met this guy, this really cute but kind of weird guy. Well he wasn't weird exactly but the situation felt... Mom what's wrong?"
I finally stopped talking when I spotted my mom sat on the sofa in the lounge. She had a worried expression and was fidgeting absentmindedly with her wedding ring, twisting it around and around her finger. She looked up and quickly shook her head as if noticing me for the first time.
"What, oh its probably nothing sweetheart, now did I just hear you say you met a cute guy, you Amy, found a guy cute"
My moms attempt to distract me from whatever was worrying her didn't work.
"Come on Mom what's wrong" I squatted down and placed my hands on hers to stop her fidgeting.
"You'll think I'm being stupid, and over protective, as I said it's probably nothing" I didn't say anything in response I just raised my eyebrow at her. "OK it's just your brother"
I interrupted her "What's that idiot done now, wait isnt he camping out at Carlsbad Caverns with his friends"
"Yeah that's the problem he should have been back this morning and I hadn't heard from him since yesterday"
"Yep definitely over protective" I smiled gently at my Mom as I teased her. "I agree its not like Tony to not call but he's probably just lost track of time"
More likely drank to much last night and is still curled up in his tent sleeping it off I thought to myself. "He's just spent 3 days fending for himself, he's probably starving and will no doubt roll up in time for dinner, now I need a shower" I stood up and place a soft kiss on my mother's head.
"And then you can tell me all about this boy you met"
"Mom" I whined
"Amy in all your years at high-school you never once came home talking about a boy this one must be pretty special"I showerd and changed taking extra special care of my outfit knowing I would be seeing Dean again that night.
Me and my mom chatted while we ate both trying to ignore the undercurrent of wory. Tony still hadn't arrived home, we had both tried to call him but no answer.
As much as I wanted to go and meet Dean I was worried to leave my Mom
"Amy go enjoy your date I'll be fine"
"Its not a date Mom were just hanging out"
"Fine go enjoy your hook up"
I sputtered my cheeks going instantly pink. "Mom if ist not a date it's certainly not a hook up"
"Its not like you don't deserve to let off some steam after all the hard work you put in to getting the grades you needed"
My Mom gave me a lewed wink as I flounce out the door, calling back over my shoulder "make sure to give me a call when that idiot brother of mine eventually shows his face"After John had woken up, showerd and returned with food the family sat around the table eating their meal
"So Dean" John said around a mouthful of cheeseburger "Sammy tells me your having girl trouble" Sam snickered and Dean growled at his little brother.
"It just a feeling sir, something feels weird, I feel wierd when I'm around Amy" Dean was embarrassed to be talking to his dad about girls, they didnt have an exactly normal father son relationship John was more of a drill Sargent than a dad.
"Well boy I thought you to always listen to your gut and you have excellent instincts. Best if you forget about this Amy girl and concentrate on tomorrow's hunt." Dean was both pleased by his fathers compliment and annoyed at his quick dismissal of Amy.
"Does that mean I get to go with you" he said with excitement in his voice
"Sure, should be a quick in and out Sammy will be fine here on his own for a couple of hours.
"What why can't I come too? I'm not a little kid anymore, you let me go with you to that vengeful spirit case last month and I did just fine"
John stared at his youngest son for a moment before answering "because Sam, I said so"
"Thats not an answer why can't I come, I'm fast and strong, what's the point of training if your never let me hunt?" Sam had been arguing with his Dad more and more recently. Dean knew his little brother didn't like the life of a hunter, but he hated being left behind even more. Dean had heard this argument hundreds of times. He zoned the bickering out and finished his food.
It was just starting to get dark when Dean felt a wave of warmth pass through him, just seconds later headlights flashed outside the window and the sound of car tyres crunching on gravel could be heard. After a few moments they came a light knocking at the door. John and Sam exchanged a knowing look as Dean jumped up to answer it.
"Amy hi' Dean said as he opened the door.
John stood from his place at the table "Well Dean are you gonna introduce us to your friend" his voice was rough and his demeanour purposefully more menacing.
Great Dean thought scare the poor girl away why don't you. "Amy this is my Dad and my brother Sam"
Amy took a small step into the room John stepped forwards and held out his hand "John Winchester, pleased to meet you" As his large hand engulfed Amy's Dean noticed the garish silver ring on his Dads finger. He couldn't help but be impressed, John may have dismissed his concerns earlier but he clearly wanted to check Amy out for himself.
