ASRA

I was left reeling from the events of the afternoon as Professor Fig led me through the massive doors of the castle entryway. If I hadn't already seen a myriad of life changing events in the last six hours, perhaps I would have been left more in awe of my new surroundings. Watching a man you just met get eaten by a dragon mid-flight didn't exactly set an exciting tone for the year. But after being locked in the vault at Gringotts, discovering the memory in the pensive, and fighting Ranrok to escape, I was certain that anything else required from me this evening would be far less dangerous. Or so I chose to hope.

Nonetheless, I still found myself taking the time to admire all the intricate details of the castle as I was led through another set of doors. It was certainly a sight to behold. My body still ached from our journey here and the surprise attacks, and I was rather looking forward to taking a moment to sit and breathe. My mind continued racing, searching for any possible explanation for the day's events, and how on earth I managed to be stuck directly in the middle of it. Whatever this 'Ancient Magic' was, I had the unnerving feeling that I wasn't in for a quiet year of studying.

As we approached the hall, Professor Fig stuck his head through the crack in the next doorway, revealing booming cheers and applause from students before shutting it once more.

"Alright, we've made it just in time for the sorting ceremony." The Professor sighed, his shoulders visibly relaxing for the first time since their journey to the school began. With a flick of his wand, I watched with excitement as my casual clothing transfigured into what I assumed was the standard Hogwarts uniform. While Professor Fig had schooled me in many of the basic's over the summer months, he had informed me we wouldn't begin studying transfiguration until I had my own wand. While the loaner wand he had given me worked fine, I struggled to understand the need for one. I was able to perform wandless magic just fine after my magic manifested for the first time. "I'm no expert, but that seems more appropriate." The Professor gave a chuckle before continuing. "Now— I need to study this locket as soon as I can, but first I must contact The Ministry. They need to know what happened to George and be warned of Ranrok. For the moment I ask that you keep all that's happened this evening between you and me."

"Of course, Sir." I replied, understanding that I needed to keep the information we had discovered close until we were able to learn what it was all leading to.

"Thank you." Fig breathed a sigh of relief before clasping his hands together and giving her his usual cheerful grin. "Ready for the sorting ceremony?" Before opening the door leading to the Great Hall once again. I watched as he made eye contact with a rather pompous looking man addressing the hall, who I assumed was the Headmaster from Professor Fig's descriptions. The Headmaster shot Fig a disapproving scowl before making his way down the center aisle, right towards them.

"Phineas Nigellus Black." Fig explained, his tone full of conflict and urgency as he directed me several steps away from the door. "Prepare yourself to meet the Headmaster."

"Fig." The Headmaster spoke curtly, looking Professor Fig up and down with a scowl that could curdle fresh cream. "Nice of you to join us. The Sorting Ceremony is over."

"There were... complications." Professor Fig replied gently, clearly attempting to ease the tension.

"Complications?" Black scoffed incredulously at Fig's response

"It would seem the Goblins–"

"Goblins?! I have no time for rumors, Fig! I am rapidly losing whatever patience I had left." Black snapped, cutting off the Professor's explanation in an instant. I took a deep breath, biting my cheek to restrain myself from making a rude comment.
