Louises POV*
Oh my god, I can't believe I let Alex hold me in front of the girls, I was mortified.
Looking at the girls throwing me amused and suggestive looks, I knew it was going to be hard to stop them from assuming the worst. So much for wanting to keep things professional, lowkey and secret. Habit is a scary thing because clearly, I've gotten too used to Alex's touch. It wasn't so bad at work as we were both on our best behaviour and actively maintaining a respectful distance, well at least I was. Alex wouldn't let an opportunity alone pass without dropping at least one kiss on me. He must think I'm an idiot if to not realise what he was doing leaving so many marks on my body. He's single handily changed my dressing habits into more turtlenecks and high collared shirts.
'I need the bathroom, come with me Louise,' Bailey said before grabbing my wrist and forcefully dragging me along with Emily scurrying along for the gossip. I already knew I was about to face an interrogation.
'So when were you going to tell us you were sleeping the boss? I knew he had a soft spot for you!' Emily exclaimed the moment we got into the cubicle.
'I mean never cause we've never had sex',' I said with a roll of my eyes. I technically wasn't lying, cause even though we have been sleeping together far too often, we have never crossed the line and had sex, they didn't need to know all the other details.
Both girls sent me an unimpressed and clearly disbelieving look
'I'm serious girls, I can't sleep with Alex, he's my boss!'
'I mean the way you so naturally sat in his arms earlier, tells a different story im afraid to say.? Bailey snickered. 'Clearly the man has the hots for you and I think you should take this god given opportunity to have the best sex in Manhattan'
'Surely that's an exaggeration? Best sex in Manhattan, please,' I said rolling my eyes as I opened my purse to reapply my lip gloss. 'I told you girls before we are just friends and hes a touchy individual, kind off, apart from when he's on work mode and being a domineering asshole.'
Neither girl seemed to be buying what I was selling and my brain was running at a hundred miles per hour to try and talk myself out of this.
'Besides, we are at the bar, he's clearly drinking alcohol, he's a bit of flirty drunk but its nothing. Besides he's Alex for gods sake, he can sleep with whoever he wants, its probably just second nature.' I said with a click of my lip gloss lid before leading the girls out.
'Im not buying it, I still think hes interested in you and I think you should give him a chance girl. When else do you run into attractive, rich men who want to fuck your brains out and save you from the working hell that is corporate,' Bailey asked as we threaded through the throb of sweaty people grinding on each other.
'Excuse you but I actually like my job,' I snickered. 'And because I like my job, I'm ending this conversation here, it's never happening.'
Exchanging glances, Emily and Bailey thankfully dropped the subject. I was grateful that Alex had only held my waist and not pulled his usual possessive nonsense otherwise even jumping into the river couldn't clear my name. The rest of the night seemed to fly through as shots were had and everyone loosened up dancing and singing together. Alex's friends were surprisingly super chilled out and funny, keeping the energy of the group high. I was surprised once again as I presumed his friends would be arrogant and cocky but clearly you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
Feeling a nudge on my shoulder, I looked to find Emily giving me a pointed look. Confused I followed her gaze to spot Alex looking awkward on the side, clearly him being the boss made the girls a bit apprehensive around him and his friends being true friends, ditched him for the fun.
'He looks a bit lonely and out of place over there,' Emily said looking at me, before giving me a slight shove, 'As his friend I think you should do better and go get him to dance otherwise he will just have a shitty night and we will have a shitty day at work next week.'
She had a point, and I knew how stressed he was today and if he didn't loosen up and release it here, he would most likely pull something ridiculous back at the apartment so I rolled my eyes before squeezing my way to him.
'Hey, do you want to dance?' I asked awkwardly. Why does this feel like I'm hitting on him?
'Your friends are making you do this aren't they?' He asked me with a grin before resting his arm on my waist again.
'yeah, they are convinced that your into me and want me to take you for a ride, even though are my boss,' I grunted out in frustration, opting to omit the part about the best sex in Manhattan. Lord knows this man's ego doesn't need any more enhancing.
'Well, they are not wrong, and they come up with great ideas.' He said with a grin as he wrapped his whole arm around my back and pulled me towards. I had to brace my arms against his chest.
'This is your fault! You keep doing things like this and they think we are sleeping together,' I groaned as I lightly smacked his shoulder. 'I had to tell them you're just a touchy person and the alcohol was making you flirty. But you need to control yourself better, you cant do this around other people or in the office you know I don't want that kind of attention.'
'You're not much better than me you know,' Alex said with a grin as he nuzzled his nose near my ears, 'your mouth complains and nags yet your body is honest and cuddles right in. You know you're safe with me so you let your guard down.'
Goosebumps ran down my arm as his warm breath brushed my ear, my mouth dry. I didn't like what he said and wanted to argue but I knew I wasn't blameless. I glanced up, realising how close his face was to mine. I could see his stubble coming through, a lazy grin hanging off his lips as his eyes sparkled with mischief.
'Now since you've given me such a great excuse, I will be taking full advantage,' He chuckled as he quickly downed whatever drink he was holding before grabbing two more shots and handing me one. 'Come on pumpkin. It's Friday, time to loosen up, I promise to not make you work this weekend.'
'I shouldn't, you know me and tequila don't go together, ' I said as pushed his hand away.
'Nope, not an option, we're all having a round,' Emily interrupts as she grabs two more from the bottle girl, handing one to Devon. 'Bottoms up everyone! To the end of a shitty week'
Reluctantly I grab my shot and down it in one, grimacing as it slid down my throat like lava. God this stuff is actually worse across the pond.
'What kind of cheap shit is this?' I complained, I've never had such a bad aftertaste before, 'If you're going to make me drink, at least give me the good shit.'
