The first thing Madelene noticed after waking up was that she couldn't see. The second one was that she couldn't move. The third thing she noticed was that Kai fucked her over again, and she was stupid enough to go back every time and believe he changed.

The surroundings were quiet, she was sitting on a familiar comfortable couch, and her legs were tied together around her ankles as well as her wrists behind her back.

"Fucking hell" she breathed out slowly, there was a cloth tied over her eyes.

Madelene refused to panic and spiral, instead, she took long and steady breaths to think of a solution. Her head immediately filled with images of pages from the grimoire, trying to remember a potential spell that could help her as she slowly tugged on the restraints to test their strength.

In moments like this she regretted never continuing her classes run by Kai's mother, she could have been an amazing witch but got left merely average at best.

"Fractos" she finally whispered, praying that that was the correct pronunciation of Latin.

She felt as restarains get somewhat thinner in touch and then she tugged breaking herself free.

"Oh thank god" she breathed out.

She quickly removed the cloth around her eyes and looked around. She was in the same exact spot she remembered falling asleep last night—Kai's hiding spot. The empty liquor bottles were scattered on the carpeted floors and all the blinds were down, blocking the sun.

When she looked down, her previously naked body was now dressed in a large t-shirt that ended mid-tight. A weak wave of disgust washed over her, imagining Kai dressing her and then tying up just to leave her behind in here, alone, forever.

She stood up, her head spinning from yesterday's alcohol consumption. Looking around, her clothing was nowhere to be found, even the shoes she left by the front door were gone and when her hand wrapped around the door handle, it burned, it burned like there was a fire on the other side.

"Ahh," she held her palm close to her chest as the pain quickly spread.

She tried again immediately after. Screams of pain involuntarily came out of her mouth as she tried to twist the handle, and it worked. A red bruise formed on the inside of her palm and when she took a closer look, she noticed the skin was burned, all through the skin tissue to show raw, burned meat of her muscle. It's all a spell, it's not real. She thought before taking a step out.

An invisible barrier bounded off of her body and threw her back inside the house. Madeleine felt weak, she knew Kai must have taken more than enough magic to weaken her to the point she couldn't rescue herself, the layer upon layer of spells protecting the house were downing on her, the sweet smell of magic almost dripped from the walls.

Madelene groaned as she lay on the floor, her breath coming in shallow gasps. She tried to collect herself, rubbing her injured hand gently, feeling the sting of the burn and the residual tingle of the spell's backlash. Her mind raced, replaying the events that led her here, the familiar cycle of gaining her trust, making her feel safe and loved only to fall back into betrayal the second the opportunity presents itself.

The thought of Kai's betrayal left a sour taste in her mouth, but she pushed the emotion aside; she couldn't afford to be clouded by anger now.

She got up slowly, steadying herself against the couch, and surveyed the room more carefully. The grim sight of empty liquor bottles and drawn blinds filled her with a sense of eerie deja vu. It was like she was trapped in a twisted loop, one she'd escaped before only to fall back into the old habits, and Malachai Parker was the worst of addictions.
