"Where is he?"

The Salvatore boarding house stored many memories inside, most importantly, the memory of Olivia's murder that happened just days ago.

Madelene noticed that the blood stained carpet was no longer on the oak, elegant floors. There was no sign of struggle, battle or murder. Everyone looked so casual as if nothing bad ever happened in here. But she could feel it, the dark, heavy aura that surrounded the whole house, she never had to ask, she knew many had died in those walls.

"Madelene, he's not here, I don't know what you are talking about. Can you just sit down for a second and calm the fuck down?"

The raven-haired girl walked from room to room, slamming the doors with strength that no one knew she had. She ran up and down the stairs, breathing heavily. Just as she came back up from the cellars in the basement that she also found empty, anger and frustration started to build up.

"I did a locator spell, he was here..." she breathed out.

She looked down on her hands and counted her fingers. In dreams, she always had too many, but she counted ten now, so this was all real, and he was not there. She looked back up with tears in her eyes. Bonnie looked impatient. She had her phone in her hands, and she unlocked it for the fourth time in the past few minutes, but Damon—well, Damon looked annoyed. He looked so over Madelene that it almost made her want to physically fight him.

"What is going on in here?"

"What is going on is, you are acting crazy Maddie, your boyfriend left town and didn't take you with, that's all" he shrugged nonchalantly "It's a real bummer but it's time to move on."

Madelene's fists clenched at her sides, her jaw locked in anger. She stormed over to Damon, even if he was taller, bigger, and stronger, she had a feeling that she could beat him up right now.

She didn't really understand the anger she was feeling, maybe it wasn't anger, maybe it was just frustration. But she felt lost, she didn't know what to do without Kai. For the past twenty years, she had a mission to keep an eye on him, to never let him escape, and now, she failed the mission. She was in a world she couldn't understand, and she was completely alone, surrounded by people she couldn't really trust fully.

"You must be Maddie, I'm Stefan"

She suddenly heard a voice behind her back, confused, she turned around. She knew Stefan was Damon's brother. He had dark blonde hair and a clean-shaved jaw. He extended his hand towards her and offered a warm, sympathetic smile.

She didn't take it, she just stared at him with a raised eyebrow, and then she looked back at Damon and then at Bonnie. "Is he for real?" she asked them, before going back to the younger brother "I couldn't give less fuck who you are right now, oh my god" she groaned, walking past him.

"She doesn't like touching" Damon quickly explained to his brother who only nodded and moved away ever so slightly, but his friendly demeanor didn't falter.

"I've heard a lot about you. Damon tells me you've been going through a rough time."

"Rough time?" She let out a dry, humorless laugh. The shadows still clung to her as she walked towards the seating area and flopped on a couch "You could say that, Stefan."

"Alright," Damon cut in, rubbing his palms together. "While we wait, Bonnie takes off the linking spell from you and Kai."

Madelene scrunched her eyebrows in confusion "Doesn't he need to be here to do that? As far as I know, he disappeared into thin air" she shook her head in disapproval and looked down to her knees "He left me again." Her last sentence was just a whisper, no one but her heard it.
