With an exaggerated groan, Damon hefted Maddie out of the trunk and over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. "Jesus, you're heavier than you look."
He carried her with ease up the long driveway and opened the door swiftly with a kick.
Elena was in the living room when Damon finally stumbled in making a bunch of noise. "Damon, what the hell are you doing?"
Her expression changed within seconds as she registered the unconscious girl in his arms.
Damon shrugged nonchalantly, dropping Madelene into a chair with a loud thud. "Oh, you know, just doing what needed to be done and no one had the balls to do. We need to get Kai here, and I figured nothing says 'urgent' like a little abduction."
Elena frowned, getting up from the couch "Are you out of your mind?"
"Relax, Elena. She'll be fine," Damon said, brushing off his girlfriend's concern as he grabbed the previously prepared rope and began tying Madelene to the chair. "She's been through worse. Kai's psycho-express ring a bell?"
He looped the rope around her several times, making sure it was secure, but not too tight as Elena watched him with arms crossed over her chest, a disapproving grimace on her face.
Once Madelene was securely tied, Damon stepped back to admire his handiwork. "There we go, all set," he said, pulling out his phone. He crouched down next to Madelene, leaning in close for a selfie. "Smile," he said with a chuckle, snapping the photo of her unconscious form.
He quickly typed out a text to Kai, attaching the photo. "Come get your little girlfriend." He hit send with a satisfied smirk.
"Damon, this isn't how we do things." Elena's voice was strained, trying to keep her frustration in check. She stepped closer, her eyes darting between Damon and Madelene, still slumped unconscious in the chair.
"And how exactly are we supposed to do things, Elena?" Damon shot back, straightening up and pocketing his phone. His usual smugness oozed out as he raised an eyebrow at her. "Have you forgotten what's at stake here? Or rather who? "
"You kidnapped an innocent girl- Bonnie wouldn't want this" She shook her head in disapproval. "Isn't she a friend of yours too?"
"Barely" he shrugged, Elena looked at him in disapproval. "What?" Damon retorted, "Besides, you know Kai won't be able to resist, especially after the merge. If he cares about anything, it will be her. "
The vampire leaned back against the wall "Now we just sit back and wait. This is going to be fun."
Elena just shook her head, muttering under her breath, "Only you would find this situation amusing."
But Damon just grinned. "You haven't seen the two of them together yet, best telenovela I've seen in my life"
The woman's jaw clenched, "If this backfires—"
"It won't," Damon cut in, his tone dismissive. "Kai's predictable. He'll come running the moment he thinks his precious plaything is in danger. He seems to think he's the only one allowed to hurt her"
Elena glared at him, "Please tell me we're just gonna give her away to this sociopathic murderer like some property right—"
"She can handle Kai, don't worry about her"
As if on cue, Madelene woke up with a loud groan, the dull ache in her muscles making her wince as she moved her neck left and right, hearing the unsettling pops of her bones. Blinking her eyes open, she found herself glaring at Damon, her expression filled with enough fury to kill. Tugging against the restraints that bound her hands, she spat out her words. "Wow, really, Damon? I thought we were friends"
