RED
—————

- The next day -

Monday

I was running through the streets of New York City. I quickly glanced at my phone, it was 08:55. Just five minutes left before class started. I overslept, again. Stupid criminals, why did you guys always have to commit crimes in de middle of the night? Of course I knew the answer to that question, but that didn't make it any less frustrating.

"Shit, shit" I mumbled under my breath. I couldn't be late again, It would be the third time in one week. One more and I was definitely getting detention. I couldn't afford that. How was supposed to protect the city if I was stuck in school all day.

What can I say, being a superhero and being a teenager are not easy things to combine. Of course I love being The Red Spider. Fighting crime and being New York's number one hero is great. But sometimes I wished I was normal, just like any other teenager.

I heard the bell ring as I approached the school building. "Red!" I heard a familiar voice call my name. It was Ariana, my best friend. She was waiting for me together with her twin brother, Evan, my other best friend.

"Can't believe you're on time" she told me as I approached her and her brother. "Me neither" I chuckled.

The three of us shared a laugh and together we walked to our first class of the day.

"Why were you almost late this time?"

It was lunch time and me and the twins were eating our food in the cafeteria. Ariana and Evan were the only two people who knew about my secret identity. When I told them about my spider abilities, around a year ago, they didn't believe me at first, until I started crawling on the ceiling. Their faces were priceless, like they had seen a ghost.

"Three dumbasses decided to rob a bank last night, I had to catch them before I could go to sleep" I explained. Evan looked impressed, but Ariana shook her head.

"Red, you do realize you can sometimes let the police handle stuff, right?"

"Oh please, the police takes ages to catch bad guys. If it weren't for Red, this city would be crawling with criminals" Evan disagreed.

Ariana crossed her arms. "You think the police is just eating donuts all day?"

I chuckled, Evan and Ariana were always arguing about something. They could never agree on anything, not even if their life depended on it.

Actually, for twins, Evan and Ariana weren't much alike. From their looks to their personalities. Ariana had red hair (not as red as mine tho) and ocean blue eyes, looking just like her mother. She was smart, organized and caring. Evan on the other hand looked exactly like his father, inheriting his same black hair and gray-blue eyes. Unlike his sister, Evan was unorganized and kind of an airhead. But he had much more humor, and was a lot better with other people than his sister.

Honestly, most people didn't believe that they were twins, because they were so different.

As the twins kept arguing about if the police were doing their job or not, my eyes fell on a table in the distance, or rather, a person.
