The whole Kutir was filled with the aroma of henna. Ladies were grinding henna leaves for the ritual that night. As it was an all-ladies function, men weren't allowed in the Kutir today, not even the groom.
Adhiraj was trying to convince his sister to let him meet Annahita, as he hadn't seen her since last night and it was already afternoon.
"Bhai, aap nahi mil sakte Anna se, Maa ne mana kiya hai," ("Brother, you can't meet Anna, Mother has forbidden it,") said Nandini.
"Arey, vo humari hone wali biwi hai, hum kyu naa mile," ("She's going to be my wife, why shouldn't I meet her?") said Adhiraj, glaring at Nandini, who seemed unfazed by his stares.
"Bhai, haldi lagne ke baad nahi milte dulha dulhan, aap behes matt kariye mujhse," ("Brother, the bride and groom don't meet after the turmeric ceremony, don't argue with me,") said Nandini, placing both her hands on her waist and instructing him to go back.
"Pehle toh Anu ka room change karke yahan Shivaay ke wing mein use shift kar diya tum logo ne, aur ab humein milne tak nahi de rhe," ("First, you changed Anu's room and moved her to Shivaay's wing, and now you're not even letting me meet her,") said Adhiraj.
"Bhai, jaao na, parso toh shadi mein dekh hi loge na," ("Brother, go now, you'll see her at the wedding the day after tomorrow,") said Nandini, fed up with his arguments.
"Dekh Nandu, humein mil lene de Anu se ek baar, verna mithai ke dabbe mein pack karke parcel karwa denge hum tujhe," ("Look, Nandu, let me meet Anu just once, or else I'll pack you in a box of sweets and send you off,") threatened Adhiraj.
