The soft rays of morning sunlight streamed through the hospital room's curtains, casting a gentle glow over Nandini as she lay sleeping. Adhiraj entered the room quietly, his footsteps measured and careful. His gaze fell on Shivaay, seated in the chair beside her bed. Shivaay’s eyes were heavy with exhaustion, but his posture remained attentive, his hand still held tightly by Nandini, even in her sleep.

Adhiraj’s sharp eyes softened as he took in the scene. He gestured silently for Shivaay to step outside. Understanding the unspoken request, Shivaay began to shift his hand, trying to ease out of Nandini’s grip without waking her. But as soon as he moved, her fingers tightened around his hand, her brows furrowing slightly as if sensing his departure even in her sleep.

Shivaay glanced up at Adhiraj, his expression apologetic yet resolute. He whispered, careful not to disturb Nandini, “Woh nahi chhor rahi hai.” ("She’s not letting go.")

Adhiraj sighed, his protective instincts flaring, but there was also a quiet gratitude in his eyes. He moved closer to the bed, observing the way Nandini clung to Shivaay’s hand, her subconscious seeking his presence for comfort. He pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat down, his protective gaze alternating between his sister and Shivaay.

"Maa baba ko nahi bataya?" whispered Shivaay, his voice low but firm.
(Didn't tell Maa and Baba?)

"Nahi, Nandu ne mana kiya tha," replied Adhiraj, equally softly.
(No, Nandu forbade me.)

"Duggal?" asked Shivaay, his jaw tightening as anger flickered in his eyes.

"Shamshaan," said Adhiraj in one cold word, but it was enough for Shivaay to understand.
(Crematorium.)

The room fell into a heavy silence, the only sound being Nandini’s steady breathing. Both men sat quietly, their thoughts dark and brooding. The tension in the air was palpable, but neither felt the need to speak further.
