Jack and Mr. Gibbs walked away from the West Indies Trade Company building.
Jack kept the black pearl in his hand, the gold chain in between his fingers. He could not stop watching it. He observed it from every angle.
Mr. Gibbs warned him to watch the way or he would stumble and fall, but he was mesmerized.
"Why did ye talk to them? Aren't ye afraid to be arrested, Jack?" Mr. Gibbs demanded.
"Why would I be arrested?" Jack was still under the spell of the black pearl.
"Because of yer Jack Sparrow! A pirate!" Mr. Gibbs thought there was something off about Jack but his next phrase let him know he was still the same as always.
"Yes, I am. I'm Captain Jack Sparrow. The original. The only!" He laughed out loud.
"Are ye alright? Can't ye see what just happened? Ye traded a trinket for an invaluable pearl! Aren't ye afraid they tricked ye into getting the pearl to arrest ye for thievery later?" Mr. Gibbs felt uncomfortable with the trade. According to him, there was something fishy about it. "Can't ye realize the problem we can get into?"
"The problem is not the problem. The problem is yer attitude about the problem. Do ye understand, matey?" Mr. Gibbs looked at Jack in confusion. Jack went on talking "It was a fair trade, she knew the ring wasn't as valuable as the pearl, but she insisted on having me ring. I didn't trick her." And then he added, "Remember matey, take what ye can, give nothing back." Jack held the pearl in front of him through the gold chain and looked at how it moved in a pendular way. He smiled and tilted his head, then he said something that left Mr. Gibbs speechless. "I am the Captain of the Black Pearl, I drink Black Pearl Rum and now I have a black pearl, savvy matey?"
Mr. Gibbs insisted after a while, that he hadn't been a pirate all his life he used to be a member of the Royal Navy "Don't ye feel guilty for taking advantage of her. I know she was satisfied with the exchange but..."
Jack cut him off "I regret nothing, ever."
Mr. Gibbs went on "but she did treat ye kindly and respectfully. When was the last time a beautiful lass treated ye in such a way, Jack?"
"What about Elizabeth Swann?" Jack spat.
"She was never kind to ye! She dislikes ye and after what ye did to Will Turner we could say she loathes ye!" Mr. Gibbs reminded Jack.
"Oh, that... misunderstanding!" Jack looked dumbfounded.
"Mis-un-der-stan-ding???" Mr. Gibbs yelled "Ye tricked Will and he got cursed. He took Davy Jones's place. Are ye crazy?" He was amazed by the way Jack recollected the events and how he tricked Will into taking his place to save himself!
"Crazy people don't know they're crazy. I know I'm crazy, therefore I'm not crazy, isn't that crazy?" Jack said casually.
Mr. Gibbs remained in silence. It was futile trying to reason with Jack when he behaved so unreasonably.
They kept walking towards the port in silence.
"Jack, can I ask ye something? Do ye fancy that Spanish lass?" Mr. Gibbs asked cautiously.
"Me? Why do ye think I like that lass?" Jack felt offended by the question. He, in love? Impossible! Never!
"Well, ye... like that kind of woman. The refined ones with nice dresses and perfume." Mr. Gibbs continued.
"Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!" Jack hanged The Jib [frowned] "Ye know I like wenches [women or peasant girls, sometimes prostitutes] and cracking Jenny's teacup [to spend the night in a house of ill repute]"
"I know what I saw, Ye like her and I think she likes ye or at least she is interested in ye. I wonder why would she insist on having yer ring? There's something that just doesn't add up..." Mr. Gibbs was truly convinced there was something wrong about this woman but he could not put a finger on it. "If I were ye, I would stay away from her Jack." He added.
"Mr. Gibbs! Don't ye think I am an attractive man who can be fancied by a young and beautiful lass?" Jack was convinced of what he said. He was offended that Mr. Gibbs did not believe in his irresistible charm with women.
"Jack, are ye loaded to the gunwales [to be quite drunk]?" Mr. Gibbs just couldn't understand his weird behavior; he was not normal. I mean his behavior has not ever been exactly normal, he is witty and a bit eccentric but this was just something else. Mr. Gibbs was afraid he could have a side effect to too much drinking or what was even worse this time he had gone crazy and in the worst case scenario silly in love for this Spanish lady who was only going to break his heart. They belong in different worlds and those worlds would never come together.
"Ye know I can hold me liqueur, I just need to take a caulk [take a nap], let's get back on board the Pearl," Jack said.
They reached the pier but the long boat wasn't there, where was it? "Mr. Gibbs, where are Pintel and Ragetti? And more importantly, where is the long boat?" Jack was annoyed. Since he was marooned on that island by Barbossa's orders then he stole the Pear, there are two things Jack could not stand. The first was not seeing the Pearl, his beloved ship, and the other was not being able to go back to his ship.
"Those two idiots must be drinking somewhere. I will make sure they get flogged, Captain!" At this point, he was afraid to infuriate Jack.
"But if they went somewhere to drink..., then ... where ... is the long boat? Mr. Gibbs, do ye have anything else to report to me?" Jack questioned him with a pinch of annoyance in his voice.
"I... I..." Mr. Gibbs could not utter a world. He was speechless and at the same time, he wanted to hang those two from the main mast!
"Deal with those two later, now I need ye to get me to me ship!!!" Jack shouted. He was fuming. He closed his eyes and pinched the space in between his eyebrows.
Fortunately for Mr. Gibbs, Pintel and Ragetti just walked towards them carrying some sacks. They must have looted the market. "Ye idiots! Come here right now!" Mr. Gibbs lost his temper, "Where is the long boat? Yer Captain wants to return to the Pearl!" Pintel and Ragetti looked at each other cluelessly, and then Ragetti scratched the top of his head as if doing that would help him remember where the longboat was.
Suddenly Pintel came to his senses and said "We hid it before we went into town because..."
Jack gave them a murderous look and Mr. Gibbs ordered them to get it at once. "Yes, Sire. We will get it right now!" Pintel nervously said and the two of them left the sacks on the pier and disappeared.
Jack took the black pearl necklace from his pocket and put it on. Then he touched it and breathed a sigh. Mr. Gibbs looked at him worriedly. This Spanish lass had truly caught Jack's attention. "About that woman, Jack, what do we do?"
Jack doubted but in the end, he said: "Ask Marty to keep an eye on her and report to me... My tremendous intuitive sense of the female creature informs me that she is trouble." Mr. Gibbs nodded in response. "As ye wish, sire," Mr. Gibbs said "Captain look!" and he pointed to the long boat coming their way."
