Sehun was taken aback. The words from Kai hit him like a bolt from the blue. He had always been open to the idea of marriage, but the thought of marrying Kai had never crossed his mind. There he stood, speechless, yet inside, he found no urge to refuse. With Kai standing before him, Sehun was deep in thought, weighing it all. The moment lingered until Kai shattered the quiet.
"Ah, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to stress you out. Let's just forget I said that. We're good," Kai said, ready to end the conversation. However, Sehun couldn't let him leave just yet and held his hand. "Wait..."
"I'm not stressed, it's just that I'm shocked, or rather, surprised. I had never considered any of it. It's just..."
"I understand, and if it's any consolation, I never pictured a life beyond my work, yet here we are. Look, I won't coerce or pressure you; I've spoken my piece and, as I've said, you're still young and have the opportunity to start afresh. As for me, I won't pretend there aren't chances-if I turned to my father, he'd have a lineup of arranged marriages ready. But for some reason, I can't bring myself to envision what that would be like."
"You mean, remarrying and having to go on a honeymoon without consent? It's definitely work," Sehun said with a light chuckle.
"No, I was referring to doing it without you. I'm not typically eloquent, but I suppose I'm managing quite well here, right?"
Sehun nodded in agreement, "I wouldn't dispute that. It's just, once again, a lot to take in."
"Oh, it's okay, you can take a lifetime to think because I don't believe we'll have conversations like this again. It's just in this moment, I can't lose character. At least not so quickly."
"Well, okay then. I'll take my time."
"As long as you wish, dear wifey." Kai smiled.
Sehun chuckled, "You claim you're not good words, yet you can't seem to have a conversation without flirting."
"Facts are considered flirting now? Great," Kai muttered with a hint of sarcasm. "I wish I could say the night is beautiful here." With a shrug, he made his way to the bedroom.
Sehun felt butterflies fluttering in his stomach, thinking, "Gosh, if only people knew this side of Kai."
Sehun lingered, lost in thought about his past. Glancing back at the bedroom, he saw Kai already tucked in bed, prompting a smile and a sigh from him. Fear gripped him-the fear of repeating past mistakes, a fear he thought materialized when he married Kai. It was all unplanned; he wasn't prepared for how swiftly it unfolded. He had been ready to marry, eager for the family he always desired, but not like this. It was a lifetime decision. The past, though he had moved on, still clung to him, a means of self-protection. With a deep breath, he released his thoughts, gazed up at the sky, and murmured, "You hear that? He said it's beautiful," before returning inside.
-
It was a splendid morning, a perfect start to the day. The sunshine filled the room, making it seem as if it were floating in heaven. Sehun opened his eyes gently, akin to a newborn. He glanced over at Kai's spot, but it was empty. Startled, he sat up quickly, scanning the room, until at last, he heard Kai's voice.
"You're up? Great. Breakfast is ready. Let's get ready, we're going home."
Sehun was perplexed, "Ah... What? Have we just arrived?"
Kai was collecting his belongings, muttering, "It's already been chaotic. I can't even begin to imagine what the next six days will bring."
Sehun rose swiftly from the bed, exclaiming, "Whoa, wait. Weren't you the one talking about spending a lifetime together and all? What happened to that?"
Kai gazed at him and said, "Our lives belong in the city, not on this island."
Sehun expressed his frustration, "I truly can't grasp what's happening in your mind. Anyway, if you want to leave, then leave. I won't be joining you."
Kai stopped, "No, it's not gonna work again."
Sehun crossed his arms and stood firm, retorting, "Yeah? Well, I hope it doesn't."
Kai sighed, "I knew it; that's why I didn't even book the flight tickets. But just so you know, this trip is the only thing that will go your way. Otherwise, everything will be done my way."
Sehun smirked and headed to the bathroom, murmuring, "Huh."
-
They were in a car, destination unknown. Kai was engrossed in his phone, scrolling through the latest news and updates about the city and their business. Meanwhile, Sehun was reviewing the day's agenda, item by item.
"Wow, there's going to be a night magic show. It should be fascinating."
Kai's grip tightened. "A magic show?"
Sehun nodded. "Yes, before that, we're going to visit the wildlife here. Exciting, isn't it?"
"Sure," Kai said, clearing his throat and turning to gaze out the window.
The day concluded swiftly, and it was time for the magic show. They were in the room, preparing.
"I mean, it's just literal manipulation. Where's the magic in that?" Kai argued, as that's what they had been doing all morning.
"Oh, come on, Kai. Why must you always consider the logical side? It doesn't hurt to view things as magical and miraculous." Sehun tightened his tie and brushed his hair.
As Kai fastened his cufflinks, he remarked, "That's how humans work."
Sehun exhaled, "Right! I forgot you're not one."
"I'm ready; let's go and finish these things already," Kai declared, fully prepared.
"Take it easy, Mr. Robot. We're not really going to hurt anyone; it's just a show. Let's get going," Sehun said, ready for action as well.
Upon their arrival at the venue, a grand mansion unfolded before them. Sehun was in awe, exclaiming, "Wow, it's even bigger than your place!" Meanwhile, Kai surveyed the surroundings with a keen eye, as if scanning the area.
"Well, mine's is a house, a home, not a venue for ridiculous displays. Besides, it belongs to us. Anyway, when does this charade begin?" Kai scoffed.
Sehun couldn't help but sigh, "Mister, you really have some serious problems."
Kai glanced around and muttered, "Yeah, whatever."
They took their seats at the assigned table. The venue was packed, signaling that the show was about to start. Sehun turned to Kai and observed, "You seem anxious. Is something bothering you?"
Kai took a gulp of water and replied as casually as possible, "Nothing."
Sehun's frown deepened, but before he could voice his queries, the magic show commenced. As expected, the audience was captivated by the magician's performance, all except for Kai. He seemed disinterested in the spectacle, his gaze drifting aimlessly as if in search of something, or perhaps... someone?
