so i've heard many girls say "why should we wear the hijab because men can't control themselves"
first of all i'd like to point out that first and foremost your hijab is like your identity, it's letting people know that you're muslim. we'll get back to that in a minute tho.
so i personally think that the hijab is like a lock.
i'd like to ask you "why do you lock your door just because some people steal?"
just like you lock your house doors even though people breaking in isn't your fault, you wear the hijab even though men not controlling themselves isn't your fault.
it's like an extra safety measure.
now back to the point i mentioned earlier, as allah (swt) said "O Prophet! Ask your wives, daughters, and believing women to draw their cloaks over their bodies. In this way it is more likely that they will be recognized ˹as virtuous˺ and not be harassed. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful." {33:59}
it is a way to be recognised as muslim, to be recognised as virtuous. it's so people know that when they're messing with you they're messing with all muslims and it helps to protect you.
another point (i saw this point mentioned in an instagram reel), body image, there's this "perfect" body image and it causes many issues for women, me included, and wearing modest clothing and hijab prevents you from comparing body types and helps protect you mentally.
i'm not saying that not being a hijabi makes you a bad muslim (as all of us sin, some are just public while others are private) but wearing it definitely does make you a better muslim.
this doesn't mean that a hijabi is better than a non-hijabi as no one can judge but allah, instead this is a reminder that hijab is an obligation and we should do our best to wear it properly.
