I was here. After this long process of coming here, I was finally here.
You must be wondering why I chose Massachusetts. Besides it having one of the best colleges in America, it was also where my parents live. Crazy coincidence, right? They are also very into the architect field, so you could say I followed into their footsteps. Housing can be complicated when studying aboard, but as long as my parents were here, I wouldn't have a problem with that. Fun fact the current house they are living at was designed by no other than themselves.
Once I left the airport, I ordered a cab to drive me to their place. It took around 30 minutes to get there and once I arrived I grabbed my suitcase from the truck and thanked the driver for his service.
I admired the house right in front of my very eyes. I had only seen it in the pictures they had sent me before, so seeing it in person was a whole another experience, the deep colored blue pool they had to the unique design of the house. I walked over to the door where I rang the doorbell. No longer than a minute and lo and behold my mother appeared in front of me. She puts on the widest smile.
"My son! You've finally made it!" She embraces me in a long tight hug. I hug her back with the same energy.
"I've missed you so much mom.."
"I've missed you more!" She pulls away to look at me. "How have you been my son?"
"I couldn't be doing any better!" Suddenly my dad appears on the doorstep as well. He immediately hugs me, maybe a little too tight for my liking, but it's okay because he must have missed me so much, and I did as well.
"Hannie, my son! I'm so glad you're here!"
"I am too, dad..." Though I wasn't completely sure about that. He pulled away with a big smile on his face.
"Come inside sweetie, we were just about to eat dinner," My mom says. My dad helps me carry my suitcase in the house while I sit down at the dining room.
"What are you guys making? It smells delicious!"
My mom gives a smile only to turn back around, focusing on the boiling pot in front of her. "Since we knew you were coming today, I decided to make lasagna!" Dad comes back to sit in front of me, "You remember mom's lasagna, right? It's one of her best!"
I eagerly nod, "Yes, of course! How could I forget!"
"Don't flatter me too much now," Mom joked. In minutes the steaming hot dish came out in front of us. "Looks good," I state. She sits along side with us, "I know it does."
"Look at her being cocky now," Dad says gesturing over to her. I laugh, "I mean I would too if I cooked like her."
"Aw, thank you my sweet son!" She gives me a warm smile then looks at dad to give him a dirty look.
Dad only scoffs at her expression. "How is college so far? Have you met the one yet?" He says with a smirk.
"I really think I did. We aren't dating though. I wish we were though." I say, trying my best to smile.
"Well why haven't you asked her or him out?" Dad asks confused.
"It's complicated.. I really do like him though."
"Did he come with you to the trip?" Mom asks, taking a bite from her lasagna.
"No. He's back in Korea." I wish he could come with me. I knew it would be too complicated though. Dad puts his elbows on the table, becoming more interested in the topic, "Well what does he study?"
I think about the question a bit. "Um, he doesn't go to college."
Mom frowns, "Well does he at least know what he's going to be doing for a living?"
