Alina's POV
Avoiding me. That's what Armando was doing the last couple of days after he came back from his mother. Why? I have no idea. He does talk to me, but not that much and everytime I'm trying to ask about Isabel or what we're going to do, he just stays silent.
But that stopped this morning. Somehow he opened up again and told me everything his mother said to him. About her asking for his help, to give us information about my father and her wanting my father dead (what I agree on)."I think it's best for us if we head back to Miami. When I was at the market this old lady came up to me. Apparently she knew who I was. She said my father was looking for me since we arrived here. It's not smart to keep digging into our histories right now" I told Armando. "Yeah you're right. Do you want to talk to my mother before we leave? To get something out of her." "No. I want to find out things myself and as you said, she is not going to help us unless you helping her. I think there's no use for me to stay here. Nobody is going to talk." "I will pack our things alright?" Armando said as he was already making his way over to our suitcases. We packed for a hour long. Yeah I just had a lot of clothes with me and I did not want him to do that all by himself. As I finished packing Armando was getting us lunch. "Here I got us quesadillas!" He said with a big smile on his face when he entered the room. He was enjoying his time here, back home. The food, the people, it made him just as happy as a little kid with balloons. We sat in silence for a while as we we're eating our food.
"When I left the house, my mother asked for something. She was asking about some USB stick that has a lot of information on it, about your father. She said you know where it is." Armando said, breaking the silence. I looked at Armando. I wondered if he knew what was on that USB. "Yeah, I have an USB. I haven't turn it in yet. I don't know if I'm going to do that. That is what you want to hear right now, right?" "Why do you have it?" He said a little bit suspiciously. "Because of my father. My mother gave it to me. She told me that everything I needed to know was on it. I saw some documents from his business on it. Also noticed your family name. I didn't know who you or who your family was back then. But I'm holding on to it until I think it's the right time to hand it over to the police. I can use it against my father for now." I said to him. "My mother asked for it. But I'm not asking you to give it to her. But be honest with me please. She's not asking for something if she has no reason for it. Does it has anything on it that can be used against her, or me?" He asked me. "No I don't think so, only some things about the business between our families. I didn't notice anything more than that." I lied to him.
Why did I lie? To him, Armando, the man I love? Because I didn't trust him right now. I mean I do trust him, but not right now because of his manipulative mother. I know the reason why she asked for it. It holds more information against her family than mine. I remember when I looked into that USB, that not only my father's criminal activities were on it, but also everything every Aretas has ever done. Including the things Armando has done, things that the government doesn't even know. Horrible things. I know that he is not the man he was 4 years ago. But, his mother came back. His mother made him the man who he was. A stonecold killer. She could make him like that again. She has a hold on him and she knows that. He can't be trusted as long as she is alive.
"Are you planning on going back, to talk to your mother?" I asked Armando as I noticed him get changed into some nice clothes and doing his hair. "Yeah. And I think you should head back to Miami by yourself." "You don't want me to come with you and leave together?" I asked him wondering why he was being so wierd to me right now. "I think I'm ready for some mother-son bonding, as you suggested. " I nodded. I totally get that it's not ideal for me to be there with them if they try to build a healthy relationship again. "I will try to get something out of her alright." He said to me as he gave me a kiss on my forehead. "I don't think that I'm getting what I wanted. But thanks anyway." I said to him as I gave him a little hug.
Armando's POV
I had dropped Alina off at the airport and was already on my way to my mother. My mother was right. The other day, when I left, she told me that that USB was dangerous if it was in Alina her hands. Alina could use it against me. When my mother said that to me, I did not believe her. I knew Alina wouldn't do such thing. But she proved me wrong. When I asked her about it, she lied to me. I could see it on her face that she was hiding something from me. She was the last person I expected to lie to me.
I arrived at the house and made my way over to the entrance. "Mamá!" I called for my mother when I stepped in to the house. "Armando. ¿Ella te lo dijo? (Did she tell you?)" "No. Ella mintió sobre eso. (She lied about it)" "Igual que su padre. (Just like her father)" My mother said to me. "¿Qué quieres decir? (What do you mean?)" I asked her. "Ven, tenemos mucho que hablar Armando. (Come, we have a lot to talk about)" She said to me as I followed her inside.
——
(3rd person POV)Armando got told a lot of things that made him think differently about Alina. The things his mother told him weren't true, but he didn't know that. For weeks Alina or anyone else didn't hear a thing from Armando. She wondered what could've happened in Mexico. But deep down she knew that his mom probably used him again to do her business. All Alina needed to do was to talk to Mike and to get Armando back as soon as possible.
*note*
Soo I'm trying to create some tension between Alina and Armando. It's gonna be good for the storyline, believe me!
Hope y'all liked this chapter 🫶🏼
