*Sonic's POV *
"Leah!" I heard shouting from the second floor and then a door being slammed. "Give it back! Now!" Shade shouted as he started banging on her door.
"Can you go see what's going on?" I asked Noah as I set the table.
We were currently at my house where Tails, Manic and Scourge had come to visit us.
"It's crazy to see how big they've gotten." Tails laughed softly. "They used to be so calm and quiet."
"How old are they already? 14?" Scourge asked.
"Leah and Noah are 14, Shade is 12." I answered them.
"Will you two stop fighting?" We heard Noah raise his voice from upstairs.
Manic couldn't help but laugh. "Reminds me of you when Mom would send you to stop me and Sonia from fighting." I chuckled at that and served the food for everyone.
"Kids! Come eat before you're late for school!" I yelled and the 3 of them suddenly started running down the stairs. "No running in the stairs!" I said firmly making them slow down and go to the table. They immediately sat down and started eating.
"Why were you two fighting?" I asked Lea and Shade.
"Lea takes forever in the restroom then took Shades toothbrush when she got out because Shade was complaining to her." Noah pointed at his sister.
"Hey! You snitch!" Lea slammed her hands on the table.
My life was like this almost everyday, and I was glad. It kept me busy and entertained. It kept me out of my head. I hadn't been the same after what happened to Shadow, I managed to get better and be a better parent to my kids but I never got over it.
Eggman was not around anymore and overall, it was safe for my kids to be on their own. They were now living the normal lives I wanted so bad growing up.
After the kids finished eating, they grabbed their backpacks and said bye to their uncles then bye to me and they left running to school. I sighed and sat down on one of the chairs feeling exhausted.
"If you need a break, you could let us baby sit them." Manic offered but I shook my head.
"No, I am fine, this is actually nothing compared to how our lives were back then." I muttered loud enough for them to hear.
"Yeah. It's been a while, hasn't it?" Tails mentioned making my ears lower lightly and nodded at the past.
"It has. We used to even sleep in the forest sometimes. At least my kids don't have to go through that... thanks to Shadow." The room fell silent at the mention of my ex. I still wore the ring he left me to this day.
"Have you visited him?" Scourge asked, he'd come a long way since we met him too. My brother had him in check, Scourge was a better person now thanks to my brother, especially after they got married. The same went for Mephiles and Silver.
"It's been a while since I did." I confessed, it always hurt to do so.
"Did you want to go?" Tails asked me and I shook my head.
"I don't think I can right now. Plus I want to take the kids with me. Shade needs to know more about him, he never got to meet him." I said calmly and stood up.
"When was the last time you took them?" Tails asked.
"About a month ago. Lea and Noah wanted to see him, Shade wasn't interested. He is still mad. The twins told him what really happened to Shadow and... well he thinks Shadow did something stupid and wasn't thinking about his family." I sighed and walked to them to the living room.
"Have you never gone by yourself?" Scourge asked and I shook my head. It hurt even thinking about going by myself but I couldn't lie, I did think about going alone. Try to move on.
"Go." Tails stood up. "Now." He looked me in the eyes. He really did know me very well. "Now. What are you waiting for? It's been almost 12 years."
I was going to say something but the 3 of them immediately started to push me, out of my own house. Before I could say anything, they had already closed the door on me making me laugh softly. "Fine..." I gave in and started walking to the cementary.
After all these years, I had always thought about coming alone but always stopped myself feeling stupid for talking to an empty tomb. I knew now I needed to do so in order to move on, the pain in my heart had always let itself known every time I was alone.
Once I reached his tomb, I dusted it down and set some flowers that I bought on the way here. I then sat down in front of the tomb and took in a deep breathe as I looked down at my hand, at the ring Shadow had left me.
"I wonder what our lives would have been like if I had been there to help you. I wonder every day what could had possibly happen to you for Eggman to have end you." I started talking to myself, well aware that Shadow's remains were not resting here. In fact, they were lost. "I wonder every day what happened to you, where you are, what Happened to Eggman?" A few tears rolled down my muzzle.
I stayed quiet for a bit as I cried in my hands. "Shadow. Our kids are so big now." I sobbed, I knew Lea and Noah were not his real kids, but Shadow was a dad to them. "I'm doing my best... I really am." I sobbed with my ears pinned down, I felt a bit better, letting these emotions out was helping.
"I know you are."
