*Sonic's POV*
"Lea, Noah and Shade the Hedgehog. Report to the front office." I heard the intercom as I paced around the school office waiting for my kids.
The 3 of them soon arrived looking at each other confused then looked at me surprised and smiling. I sometimes pulled them out of school to have a family day so I guess that's what they thought was happening. Until they finally saw my face and noticed I had been crying.
"Dad?" Lea asked concerned As she ran to me and hugged me. "What happened?"
"Daddy?" Shade and Noah got closer. I hugged them all tightly and kissed their forehead.
"Come on. We need to go home. Quickly." I said, I knew I was getting them worried but we needed to leave before G.U.N. came by.
"Whats going on?" Noah asked as we walked out of the school.
"You're getting us worried." Shade said with his ears dropped.
I sighed and knelt down in front of them again then looked them in their eyes. "I'm sorry. You are all too young for this." I explained. "But it's Shadow." I explained making them all pin their ears down.
"My dad..?" Shade asked and I nodded.
"Not just yours." Noah rolled his eyes at Shade.
"What about him?" Lea asked.
"He is alive." I said making them all freeze. Shade looked immediately hurt. "We need to hide before G.U.N. finds him."
"I knew it." Shade started crying. "He never liked me." He sobbed, I shook my head and hugged him tightly. "That's why he left."
"No. That's not true. He loves you. He always did." I kissed his forehead. "You'll finally get to meet your dad, and he'll show you just how much he loves you. All of you." I stood up again and held Lea and Shades hands while Noah walked in front of us. Soon we started running together.
"You need to sit down." Tails said as I opened the door and walked in. Shadow was standing up, he still looked very weak and I knew he needed to rest but we needed to hide first.
"I am fine. I can-" He stopped once he saw me at the door standing behind the kids.
"Dad?" Lea whispered as a few tears rolled down her muzzle.
"Shadow! You're back!" Noah dropped the big brother act and ran to Shadow then hugged him, Lea did the same but Shade stayed by me.
Shadow knelt down and hugged the twins tightly and happily. His tough act was broken as he cleaned his own tears. "You're so big already..." Shadow mumbled.
"Sonic, Shadow needs to rest. The 3 of you need to leave now." Tails said and I nodded. I wanted Shade to see Shadow but I couldn't push him.
"Go pack your things. Take whatever you think you'll need. We will be gone for a while." I told the twins as well making them stop hugging Shadow and run upstairs. Shade was still frozen in place. Shadow noticed this and slowly got closer then knelt down to be face to face with his son.
"Shade?" He asked but Shade was crying and soon fell to his knees. Shadow pinned his ears down and hesitated but petted him. "I'm sorry." Shadow whispered, breaking my heart. "I'm very sorry." He pulled him closer and hugged him and Shade hugged back.
"Why?" Shade sobbed. "Why did you leave? Did you not love me?" Manic and Scourge had left by now to go talk to my mother about what had happened. Tails had gone upstairs to pack for me since he knew I had to stay with Shadow and Shade, and Rouge had gone to help the twins.
"I did. I do." Shadow kissed Shades forehead and started purring lowly. "I always have. Always will. It wasn't your fault, I had to keep the 4 of you safe." He smiled and hugged him tighter then looked up at me and reached for my hand pulling me closer. "I did it to protect all of you. I won't leave again. I promise." I petted Shade and nuzzled him.
I heard another explosion from far away then looked back at Shadow. "We need to hurry and go." I helped them both up and told Shade to go pack his stuff. After a while, we were all standing by the front door.
"Here. They won't be able to intercept the signal here but still only use it when absolutely necessary. I have a feeling I know where to find you anyways so I will go see you once things have calmed down. Do not leave for absolutely anything, I will make sure you all have enough food and water one way or another." Tails explained.
"We will take care of everything." Rouge said to Shadow. "I'm so glad you're alive, Hun." She smiled at Shadow and Shadow chuckled.
"Can't believe you thought I died in the first place." He chuckled and shook his head. "Thank you for getting me out. I owe you."
"Big time." Rouge laughed and nodded. "Go. We will see you soon."
With that said, we all said our goodbyes and we left, I was guiding them to my foster families house, hidden deep in the forest next to a waterfall. No one knew of this place other than my family which meant we would be safe here.
"You need to sleep." I said to Shadow as we walked in the house. The kids hadn't left his side at all, except for Shade who was still very hurt.
"I dont-" Shadow started but I cut him off.
"Get. Some. Rest." I said firmly making the twins giggle.
"Daddy is serious." Lea said as she held Shadow's hand.
"Fine. Fine." Shadow gave in then kissed my forehead. I told him where the bedroom was and he went in.
I looked down at the kids then walked with them to the living room and sat them down. I was trying to explain to them what was going to happen and making sure they were doing okay.
"He hates me." Shade mumbled and I shook my head.
"He doesn't hate you. Shadow loves you." Noah said. "He's your real dad, he loves you more than he loves us."
"Dont say that, he loves all 3 of you equally." I explained and petted Shade. "Your father doesn't hate you, baby. He was gone for 12 years because of Eggman and G.U.N. Your aunts and uncles will take care of it all and nothing like this will ever happen again."
"Won't you help them?" Noah asked.
"What?" I asked confused.
"Our friends at school say you were the famous hero of mobious." Lea started. "You were everyone's hero, Sonic the Hedgehog. Known throughout the whole world."
"Yeah. What happened? Why did you never tell us that?"
