Soulmates

Bound to you

I was now part of the pack. I was human but they considered me one of them. Chris and I had been together for several months when I learned what was so special about our relationship.

I am sitting on the couch with Felix and we're talking, relaxed. Wolves being what they are, Felix is glued to me, his head on my shoulder. Always craving contact and warmth. Chris, busy with Minho, suddenly raises his head with a growl, his eyes immediately turning a shade of red. Felix moves away from me, whining slightly.

I hold Chris's stare and tell him "Chris... Stop... I know wolves are possessive and jealous but this is ridiculous!"

His growl grows louder. "Come, Lix... Let's stay out of sight of the big bad wolf..."

Felix seems surprised by the situation. "You can hold his stare?"

"Absolutely... I do it all the time!  Someone has to stand up to him once in a while, or else he becomes insufferable! Why?"

They all stop what they were doing and turn to me as if I had just announced incredible news. Chris remains quiet.

Changbin breaks the silence. "Us wolves can't..."

I turn to him, confused.

Minho adds "Except if we want to question his status as alpha and in that case it would lead to a fight between us to determine who would be the new alpha in the pack."

I don't really understand what they mean. "I'm human! He doesn't have any influence on me since I'm not a wolf!"

Seungmin contradicts me. "Humans are weaker than wolves and usually can't hold an alpha's stare if the alpha hasn't decided so..."

"It looks like our alpha has found his soulmate!" Han exclaims.

"I knew something had changed in our connection!" Hyunjin says.

"So we have a Delta? Is it possible for a Delta to be human?" Jeongin asks.

I am lost. I look at Chris who stands up, grabs my hand and leads me outside, far from their looks and their cries of joy.

His fingers intertwined with mine. We walk for a long time without speaking. He breaks the silence with a deep sigh.

"Let me explain..."

We sit directly on the forest ground, facing each other. I can see he doesn't know where to start, so I decide to guide his explanations with the questions I can think of.

"What's a Delta?"

"A wolf connected to a pack's Alpha... They hold the same power and role as the Alpha. Betas are subjected to them. They are the only member of the pack to be able to question the decisions of the Alpha and that can oppose the Alpha without risking to question the Alpha's status too much."

"How does the Alpha choose their Delta?"

He laughs. "They don't... It just happens! Like love at first sight, but stronger, way more intense..." His cheeks and ears turn a light shade of pink. "They become the most important person in our life, the one we want to protect as much as the pack... the one we want to imprint on and share the unique bond that connects us all..."

He stops speaking for a little while to take my chin in his hand and raise my head towards him. "Y/N... It's you... my soulmate..."

I can feel my cheeks turning red.

"I want to mark you... so that you'll be forever mine..."

I bite my lip before kissing him.

"Is that even possible with... someone like me? I mean... a human..."

"Yes... It's been done before... but it can be hard to bear for a human..."

"Why?"

"I don't know... I'm not human... I think dealing with the pack and the Alpha can be hard... If you just knew the efforts I'm making not to bite the head off everyone that comes close to you... even within my own pack..."

"Mister Wolf, you will have to learn how to control yourself and let me be..."

He smiles. "I will..."

Our lips meet again as he pulls me closer.

"Chris, what exactly does imprinting mean?"

He smiles, turning red. "Making love to you until you can feel the bond... My wolf will probably overpower me..."

I hide my face in his neck, as desire rises in me, a warmth rising from my lower belly. He laughs out loud before getting serious again.

"Y/N... The decision is yours to take. I would never force it on you... It is too important for the pack... for us... and for me..."

"What if I don't want to... but I still want to be with you because... I love you?"

"Then I'll respect your choice... because I love you..."
