"It's just my theory, but I believe the new Wattpad layout is a product redesign to make it more mobile friendly. As I recall, more and more of the site traffic are coming from mobile devices (tablets, phones...), and the old design is just not able to provide the same experience as that of when browsing on desktop computer.
Many scripts (rollover, to be more specific) are not compatible to touchreliant interfaces. And as the trend in web design is increasingly moving towards a mobile friendly interface (less animation, smaller data transfers, Wattpad adapted this to better accommodate new users, and users who are on the go. Hasn't anyone noticed that it's easier to navigate on your tablets and phones now than before? The frames, the media, even getting around the site is more friendly?"
