Peter Pan took so much work to animate, they actually hired two people to do his live reference work. 

His face was modeled after his voice actor Bobby Driscoll. 

His movements were modeled after professional dancer Roland Dupree. 

At least guys were becoming professional dancers at the time; women can't do everything.
