The holdup

Walt intended Peter Pan to be made in the early 40s. Some say it was supposed to be the second film after Snow White. 

But the great World War 2 stopped the development because a lot of animators were drafted into the army. 

And after Cinderella was a smash hit and Disney got his men back, they were able to get back to full-length stories instead of package films. 

So of course, they decided to get back to work on Peter Pan!
