Tink's debut

In J.M Barrie's original play, Tinker Bell was just a spot of light that moved around the set on the stage.

But when animating her, Marc Davis knew that a Disney movie couldn't just use a spot of light. That'd be too boring.

So he came up with the famous design you see in the film.

Like Cinderella, there was a rumor that Tink was modeled after Marilyn Monroe.

That's not true because Marilyn wasn't exactly iconic yet. She was famous, but not recognizable enough for Disney.

The actual lady they hired was Margaret Kerry.

Disney called Margaret to audition for the live modeling.

They told her that they wanted Tink to stand on a hand mirror, see the reflection of her butt and not be cool with the size of it.

So Margaret got on the stage with her hair in a bun and a short dress. She primped herself, saw her hips, measured them and marched off.

When she did it, the guys immediately asked her to come back a few days later.

Just being asked that, she knew she had the imagination they needed.

Thanks to Margaret, Tink is now one of the most iconic characters in all of cinema.

She even has her own star on the Hollywood walk of fame!
