(Third Person POV)

Hiccup's final exam day has arrived, and everyone from the village has gathered around to watch. They all cheer as Stoick stands in front of them all. "I can show you my face in public again!" he announces to them. "If someone had told me that in a few short weeks Hiccup would go from, well, being...Hiccup...to placing first in dragon training, well, I would have tied him to a mast and shipped him off for fear he'd gone mad!"

The village folks all cheer once again. And once it dies down, Stoick continues. "And you know it! But here we are. And no one is more surprised or more proud than I am. Today, my boy becomes a Viking. Today, he becomes one of us!"

From right outside the arena, Hiccup holds his Viking helmet in his hands, listening to what his father is saying.

From behind him stands Astrid. "Be careful with that dragon," she says with a hint of concern.

"It's not the dragon I'm worried about," Hiccup says as he watches his father walk to his throne above the arena.

"What are you going to do?" Astrid asks.

"Put an end to this. I have to try," he answers before turning around to face her. "Astrid, if something goes wrong, just make sure they don't find Val and Toothless."

Astrid nods. "I will. Just promise me it won't go wrong."

Before Hiccup can respond back, Gobber steps over to them. "It's time, Hiccup. Knock 'em dead."

Hiccup steps forward and places the helmet on his head. Once he steps into the arena, the metal gate closes behind him. The crowd cheers and chants his name as he walks over to the weapon leaning off to the side. With a nervous look on his face, he picks up a shield and a small knife.

He takes a deep breath and holds the shield in front of him, staring at the closed doors that hold the dragon he is going to face off. "I'm ready," he says.

The large wooden pole holding the doors together slowly lifts up, and with the whole thing unlocked, a Monstrous Nightmare barges out covered in flames. It roars and climbs along the walls and chains of the arena. It doesn't know of Hiccup's existence until it is hanging upside down on the dome.

It makes eye contact with Hiccup before climbing down, now standing before him. The crowd watches in anticipation as the dragon slowly approaches him.

Hiccup starts to back away, dropping his shield and knife in the process. This leaves his father and everyone else wondering what he is doing. Hiccup raises his hands in front of him to ease the dragon. "Hey, it's okay. It's okay." All the while, the Monstrous Nightmare growls as he eyes Hiccup skeptically.

Without hesitating, he grabs the helmet from his head and says, "I'm not one of them," before dropping it to the floor, leaving everyone gasping in shock.

"Stop the fight," Stoick says to Hiccup as he stands up.

"No," Hiccup protests, keeping his gaze on the now calm dragon still approaching him. "I need you all to see this. They're not what we think they are. We don't have to kill them."

His hand almost comes in contact with the dragon's snout. But his father grabs a metal hammer and slams it on the dome. "I said stop the fight!"

The loud bang from the metal alerts the Monstrous Nightmare and it goes on a rampage, about to bite Hiccup's hand. He fortunately pulls his hand away from the sharp teeth and runs away from it as it shoots a beam of fire, leaving him to also scream in terror.

(Val's POV)

The day's pretty quiet and calm for the most part. We are currently waiting for Hiccup to visit, but he is doing something at the moment. I don't what exactly, but it sounds like something of importance.
