(Third Person POV)
Stoic pulls Hiccup into the Grand Hall, slamming the door shut once inside. "I should have known. I should have seen the signs," he mutters in frustration.
Hiccup follows behind, nervously trying to speak to him. "Dad?"
"We had a deal!" Stoic shouts.
"I know we did. That was before..." Hiccup tries to gather all of his thoughts, but he is left stuttering. He groans as he places his hands in his hair. "It's all so messed up."
Stoic turns to face his son. "So everything in the ring, a trick? A lie?"
"I screwed up," Hiccup admits. "I should have told you before now. I just...Take this out on me, be mad at me, but please, just don't hurt Toothless." He didn't bother to mention Val since she stayed safe with Astrid when everything was going down in the ring. That and no one seemed to notice she came with Toothless.
"The dragon? That's what you're worried about? Not the people you almost killed?" Stoic questions.
"He was just protecting me! He's not dangerous," Hiccup says in his defense.
"They've killed hundreds of us!"
"And we've killed thousands of them! They defend themselves, that's all!"
Stoic starts pacing back and forth as Hiccup continues to speak his mind. "They raid us because they have to. If they don't bring enough food back, they'll be eaten themselves. There's something else on their island, Dad. It's a dragon like..."
Upon the mention of an island, Stoic stops and stares down at Hiccup. "Their island? So you've been to the nest?"
"Did I say nest?" Hiccup asks nervously.
"How did you find it?" Stoic questions.
"What? No, I didn't. Toothless did. Only a dragon can find the island," Hiccup answers, but that is when he made the mistake of saying that. The surprised look on Stoic's face gives it away. "Oh, no, no, no, Dad. No, please, it's not what you think. You don't know what you're up against. It's like nothing you've ever seen."
Stoic shoves Hiccup to the side and walks to the door, and Hiccup follows him again. "Dad, please. I promise you, you can't win this one!" He notices his father not listening to a word he's saying and gets worried. "No, Dad. For once in your life, would you please just listen to me?!"
Once Hiccup grabs his arm, Stoic shoves him back with a glare. He slowly turns to face him and says, "You've thrown your lot in with them. You're not a Viking. You're not my son."
With that said, Stoic leaves the Grand Hall and makes his way to the ships near the dock. Hiccup is left staring at the slightly closed door in front of him.
(Val's POV)
Astrid took me over to the dock after Hiccup's dad and the other Vikings left on their large ships with Toothless. I have my hood off for the time being because she said that no one would be around to see me.
There, we see Hiccup standing alone at the edge. I stand beside him, grabbing his arm in reassurance. But despite wanting to help him, I feel sad and worried about what might happen to Toothless.
From beside us, Astrid looks out into the distance of the ocean's horizon. "It's a mess. You must feel horrible. You've lost everything. You're father, you're tribe, your best friend. And Val lost her only guardian."
"Thank you for summing that up," Hiccup says sarcastically.
Most of what the two of them are saying I can't really understand. So I just stand there in silence, hoping I can catch onto something we can do to help save Toothless.
Meanwhile, Hiccup sighs to himself. "Why couldn't I have killed that dragon when I found him in the woods? Would have been better for everyone."
"Yep, the rest of us would've done it," Astrid adds before glancing over at him. "So why didn't you? Why didn't you?"
"I don't know," Hiccup says with a shrug. He steps away from the edge of the dock before saying, "I couldn't."
"That's not an answer," Astrid says.
Hiccup turns back to look at her. "Why is this so important to you all of a sudden?"
"Because I want to remember what you say right now," Astrid answers.
Rolling his eyes, Hiccup says, "Oh, for the love of...I was a coward. I was weak. I wouldn't kill a dragon."
"You said 'wouldn't' that time," Astrid points out.
"Whatever! I wouldn't! Three hundred years and I'm the first Viking who wouldn't kill a dragon." After saying that, Hiccup looks back at the ocean in silence.
Throughout the conversation, I'm just watching them both as they speak to one another. I'm clueless at the moment, but I have a feeling they're talking about Toothless.
"First to ride one, though. And first to encounter a half-dragon," Astrid says next. She seems to notice him perk up at those statements. "So?" she asks, wanting him to give his true answer.
Hiccup waits a few seconds to gather his thoughts. "I wouldn't kill him because he looked as frightened as I was. I looked at him and I saw myself. And when I saw Val, I realized he, too, cared about someone and was scared that I might hurt her."
"I bet he's really frightened now. What are you gonna do about it?" Astrid asks.
Hiccup shrugs. "Eh, probably something stupid."
"Good, but you've already done that," Astrid says.
"Then something crazy," Hiccup responds with a smile before running off to who-knows-where.
"That's more like it," Astrid says. She grabs my hand and we both follow after Hiccup.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We had Hiccup's friends meet up with us at the dragon training arena and discuss the plan to help Toothless. If I remember correctly, their names are Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut.
In the meantime, I have my hood over my head while we wait for Astrid to get them. I'm also sure she explained to them beforehand what Hiccup wants to do.
Hiccup stares at one of the gates holding a dragon, but Fishleg's voice grabs our attention. "If you're planning on getting eaten, I'd rather go with the Gronckle," he says, placing his hands on his hips.
Tuffnut is the first to step forward with so much confidence. "You were wise to seek help from the world's most deadly weapon...It's me."
Snotlout grabs Tuffnut's face and shoves him aside. "I love this plan!"
Ruffnut punches Snotlout out of the way and gets in Hiccup's face. "You're crazy...I like that."
Astrid pulls Ruffnut away and stands in front of the both of us. "So, what is the plan?"
Hiccup smiles before glancing at me. "Val? You wanna show them?"
I nod to his question. I prepare to freak everyone out and take my hood off. My ears pop out and my scales are now visible for everyone to see. And as expected, they all step back and scream.
